New Year is around the corner and everyone is ready with their shopping lists. Wife wants the kitchen to be remodelled into a modular magic, mother wants a Pooja room in the house to pray in peace, son thinks his room isn’t enough flamboyant and needs a aesthetic touch with a built-in gym while daughter literally wants to live inside a room that is more like the castle of a princess Elsa from Frozen. And between all this humdrum you are craving for that study/library that you do need to work from home. And to top it all you haven’t got the time and energy to make the blueprint, go shop to shop and buy all the raw material and hire the labour.
But what if I tell you that now all you need to do is dream and a team of experts will do all the dirty work for you ? Yes, that’s what Mr Shivang Kapoor of iRenovate.in has made possible. 5. Share the idea or story behind the venture. How did it come to an existence? What motivated you to start your own venture?
I was getting my house made from my Co-founder Shoorvir Singh, he was building my house in Gurgaon. He did a great job in terms of the civil part but I saw the amount of the trouble one faces when renovating their own house. So the idea collectively came I saw his execution, I am a marketing and a Tech guy. So we thought why not provide people with a one-stop solution for all their renovation needs. We take care of each and everything for our clients.
6. Who are your biggest competitors and how do you differentiate yourself from them?
My biggest competitors right now are Livspace.com and Homelane.com How we are different is our team is very lean. One of the co-founders is a civil engineer and I am a business development guy, so in terms of delivering the product we are very strong and me being an IT man, a computer engineer, coming from a computer science background, I have the knowledge of E-Commerce industry. Plus my family business has been of construction only so I know what it takes to run a company.
7. How did you identify your co-founder? Tell us something about your co-founder/s
My Co-Founder and COO is Shoorvir Yadav a.k.a The Mozart: He is a civil genius and beholds passion for making new buildings and esteemed architectures. A visionary who understands ongoing needs of his clients and is always up for the challenge to create the extraordinary. When not working, he can also be found taking care of his family and kids.

8. How did you hire your first team members? What skills Do you want in your employees/team?
More than skill I go for the attitude of the person. I feel skill can always be acquired if there is the attitude to learn. My first team members were the web developers so that we can make ourselves available online and being able to reach out to our client. Skills required will be the right attitude for the team would be to have the customer knowledge and user needs. Next came in the team of Interior Designers.

9. What expansion plans are you looking for the next 2 years, next 5 years?
Next two years I wanna be in all the metro cities and next 5 years I wanna be in all the two-tier cities along with the metro cities.
10. Where do you want to see yourself in next 10 years?
As a company, I would wanna be the first interior design/renovation company who have their own IPO launched. I wanna take it to the levels of a publically listed company.
11.Have you raised any funding? Or have any plans for the funding?
Not at the moment. Funding will be required when there is the right time and need, but not at the moment.
12. What were the problems you faced during the starting days and how did you resolve them?
We were just us two co-founders, and we work from our two offices. So the first challenge was to getting a team together to pass on my vision to someone and making them believe in it and coming to work with me. That was one the major challenges. The most important thing for any business is to getting the right team on board and keeping them happy and the right vision.
13. What was the most challenging part of your journey till now? How did you overcome those challenges?
First three to four months were very challenging, the name was still being built up, no one knew us. We used to meet people left, right and centre. But people were not having enough trust to give us the responsibility to make their dream as we were very new. We were the new face in town and closing deals came as a big challenge. It is one thing not to have money but another not to have any work despite putting in all the effort and giving your best. So I had to motivate myself to do it every day.
14. Are you married, single or in a relationship?
I am single.
15. What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?
Meeting friends. Having quality time with them. Going for a workout post work.
16. Whats your favourite food & holiday destination?
I palate Indian & Mughlai cuisine. Dubai is my second home/holiday destination.
17. Whom do you consider your idol or biggest motivator?
Not any one person. Sportsmen, businessmen, achievers like Sachin Tendulkar and Dhoni. Motivation is not an external factor, it comes from within.
18. What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?
An entrepreneur gets to see all ups and downs in life, it makes you a tougher man. You develop that killer instinct, an eye of the tiger compared to someone who works for someone else.
19. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
Nothing.
20.How has being an entrepreneur affected your family & Social life?
My social life and family like has reduced by 80%. Being a professional, it takes so much of my time, but they are very understanding as they know I am chasing some goals in my life. but it had effected.
21. Anything, you would like to say to our readers or upcoming entrepreneurs?
The sooner you start the better you place. If you are thinking of starting something you are already late. There is already someone who is implementing it. Resposilibilites are catching up on you, so don’t think, just jump into it.
22. Tell us something about your education & family background.
I was born and brought up in Delhi. My schooling was done from Saint Francis School, Janakpuri. I have done my graduation from IT University in Computer Science and did my MBA from IMT Ghaziabad in Dubai Campus. My father was a builder for the MCD, Delhi. My father built the very first subway for Delhi. He came from a very humble background, starting from nothing, he was an entrepreneur in the true sense. He was a very hard working guy. He passed in 2006, my mother was a homemaker, she passed away in 2014. My father did not want me to be in the construction business but I always wanted to be a construction guy, so I kept my education in line and gave the whole thing a twist by keeping his word and my word both intact. Today I am into construction yet not a construction guy.
23. What is your USP which makes it unique & different from other start-ups in similar domains?
At iRenovate, we offer a wide variety of professional services to help you renovate your home or office space. We are renovation specialists and our role is to deliver your dream renovation, within your budget. We produce a well-constructed plan and design for our clients. We provide professional experts, hard-work repair and Buildingmaterial experts to understand your needs. Our team consists of
Architects, builders, designers, maintenance work specialists and Highly Skilled Labor. We also render a free maintenance contract for a limited time after the renovation.
24. What do you think is the biggest threat to the success of small businesses & Start-ups today?
Giving up too early. Everything takes time, what I see around is people lack the patience to try it again and again for it to become a success By the number of times we have been put down, we would have given up long back if we didn’t push things harder. I think our country is growing everyone is energetic, everyone is young, you step put you see so much of energy flowing, The biggest threat I think comes from inside and not from outside and no one can stop you until you let them do it. I think the biggest mantra or the biggest mistake young people do today is not taking the advice of field experts. A lot of people tell you to go with the gut, but gut should come from a reliable source. Many people are experts in their fields for some reason so taking someone’s advice isn’t a bad thing too.
25. Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?
I consider myself on the journey to success. In today’s world success is measured in money. But at the pace at which we are going within the limited source we have is a success in itself. I am not yet where we want to be, but we are on our way. But at the end of the day, I am practical enough to know that success is measured by money. Be it a company, be it an individual or be it a country, success is measured in wealth. China and USA are considered successful because they are rich. But when it comes to revenue I am still not where I want to be, but I am on the path.
