Mr. Rajeev Tamhankar is the founder of TBS Planet. He had a hobby of drawing doodle in his childhood. He kept his hobby alive and decided to work on this professionally. He is a respected alumnus of IIT Roorkee. “Get Corporated Before You Get Fired” is his first book. The response was good that encouraged him to go for more. He came up with an idea of creating Indian Superheroes. In his comics, humor can be seen easily. Such contents in comics make the reader more creative and thoughtful.
TBS Planet has a team of creative and enthusiastic employees who make wonderful sets of comics for the readers. As the Indian society is a mix of progressive and regressive thoughts, it was never easy for the founder and employees to introduce their ideas to society. However, it happened. Things are changing. 1.What is the Name of Your Venture? Any specific reason for this name?
TBS Planet Comics. TBS is Thought Bubbles Studio to depict creativity and imagination.
2.Who is your target Audience/clients?
3.Where is your venture based (city, state, country) & What are your geographical target areas?
We are based out of Jabalpur and Roorkee.
4.What problems does your venture resolve? What are your products or services?
We are Building Indian Superheroes. Also, we are focusing on developing the reading skills of children.
5.Share the idea or story behind the venture. How did it came to an existence? What motivated you to start your own venture?
I loved writing since childhood. I used to tear off middle pages of school notebooks and doodle on them when I was 10 but never knew how to proceed in writing as a career option during childhood. As I graduated from IIT Roorkee and joined Flipkart, I wrote my first book – Get Corporated before you get fired! The response from the book was good and a lot of readers gave the feedback that they would have loved if the book was written in comic style and that gave the idea for the startup.
6.Who are your biggest competitors and how do you differentiate yourself from them?
Marvel and DC. We are differentiating by building Indian universe of superheros. Our character Ved had been #1 bestseller on Amazon in comics category.
7.How did you identify your co-founder? Tell us some thing about your co-founder/s
8.How did you hired your first team members? What skills Do you want in your employees/team?
Hired Jabalpur team through referrals. Later also hired interns at IIT Roorkee who became full-time team members as the company progressed.
9.What expansion plans are you looking for the next 2 years, next 5 years?
Each character to become a popular comic character by 2 years and eventually a popular brand itself by 5 years – that has its own movie, game, merchandise etc.

Get the characters popular.

Raised by a group of angel investors and TIDES, IIT Roorkee Incubator.
13.What were the problems you faced during the starting days and how did you resolve them?
Everyone is excited about tech space but very few are actually interested in art startups. To convince people to focus on art was a challenge.
14.What was the most challenging part of your journey till now? How did you overcome those challenges?
Generating traction for art startup. But good quality helped us sail through.

Persistence. Entrepreneurs persist.

Nothing. I am happy with the way it has unfolded.

It has been challenging but that now when I look back seems the fun part.

Did schooling from Jabalpur. Then went to IIT Roorkee for 5 years integrated M.Tech program in Polymer Engineering. I am a Silver Medalist from IIT Roorkee.
24.What is your USP which makes it unique & different from other start-ups in similar domains.
Content is our USP. We are also now entering vernacular sector, which will help us differentiate from other players.
25. What do you think is the biggest threat to the success of small businesses & Start-ups today?
Ecosystem in India is still evolving. Processes are complicated and society isn’t very supportive. But things are changing.
26. Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?
Success is a journey. I consider myself successful than I was few years back but in today’s view, I still have miles to go!
