Best Start-ups for Tech-challenged Entrepreneurs

While tech startups get the most attention, non-tech startups represent a significant opportunity for success and growth, particularly with overwhelming competition in most tech sectors. Five startup concepts which do not rely on tech are examined, offering entrepreneurs a quick path to startup success.
Tech startups may be the most visible, but they certainly aren’t the only ones that can be successful, even in this digital society in which we live.
In fact, one of the best ways to make money in this time when major economies in many countries are on an overall upswing is to start a business that is not tech-based. Why? Because the competition is extremely high in the tech business sector right now and for the foreseeable future. For a business owner, more competitors means a split in profits.
The bottom-line is you don’t have to have a tech business to make money … and to live the life you want to live as your own boss.
One of the key factors for success is identifying a need and seeing how feasible it is for you to meet that need for customers. Another key factor is finding a business type in which you are skilled or already have knowledge of – and are licensed to practice, if that’s an issue.
For example, if you are skilled in sewing, why not open an alteration business? If you are terrific in painting home exteriors, how about a house-painting business? By the way, these business start-up concepts do not require any technology knowledge.
Start small with your business and give it some time to grow. A small business today can be a big business in time.
Here are five other examples of terrific business start-up ideas that are not tech-based:
CLEANING SERVICES
This is a great choice for someone who enjoys cleaning and who is detail-oriented. You can clean homes or retail businesses, restaurants, offices, or any combination of those. Start out by doing this yourself. Then, as your workload demands it, and your profit margin allows it, you can add on a worker or two. Grow slowly and as you see fit. This is the type of service in which you are very likely to gain more clients through word-of-mouth if you are doing a great job.
Listen closely to your clients’ likes and dislikes when it comes to cleaning, deliver for them, and you’ll have happy customers who will sing your praises to their friends, family and work colleagues.
HOME ORGANIZER/ORGANIZING CONSULTANT
If you are a very organized person, you can make some money by doing this for others. More and more, people are starting to see the connecting between physical clutter in their lives and intangible clutter in their lives.
And, like cleaning services, you can get more customers by doing a wonderful job for your first group of customers. This is especially true if you have a touch of aesthetic taste for interior design and you can find attractive elements for organizing. If you don’t have that aesthetic, you can probably develop it by reading interior design publications, talking to interior designers or visiting furniture showrooms in your area.
You can start your business by either doing the organization for the client, or critiquing and making recommendations on an existing home organization set-up the client already has. Of course, you can do a bit of both.
LAWN MOWING/LAWN CARE SERVICES
If you are skilled at this and can offer your clients a money-savings incentive to give your lawn mowing or lawn care service a shot, this can be a successful start-up. You will have to have your own lawn mower for a mowing service, and perhaps some other tools to provide other lawn care services. Having reliable transportation with the ability to haul your equipment from worksite to worksite is also important.
CAR DETAILING SERVICE
There are so many people who don’t have the time or (pardon the pun) drive to keep their car clean on a regular basis; they just pray for rain instead of going through a car wash. And forget about detail cleaning on the inside!
If you are the king or queen of clean cars, inside and out, this could be the successful, non-tech, business start-up for you. This is a service for which people will pay top-dollar.
AUTO BODY WORK
Cars and vehicles may be changing on the inside and under the hood. But the cars and vehicles haven’t changes on the outside very much. And when there is external damage to a car, van, SUV, crossover or what have you, auto body work is still needed. Not to mention that insurance companies are more likely to pay for auto body work, when it’s a viable option, than to replace a car damaged in a collision.
Long story short: Auto body work is a service that’s still in-demand.
And the good news is, even if your knowledge of auto body work is a bit limited or you want to refresh your skills, help is out there. Auto Body Toolmart has a lot of DIY articles and online tutorials that are user-friendly and can help anyone at any subject knowledge-level. Auto Body Toolmart also sells some tools, equipment and materials that can be helpful in this trade.
EXTRA LIST OF NO-TECH START-UP IDEAS:
Personal Shopper
Errand Services – This is different from being a personal assistant. But if you want that level of involvement, go for it. It will be difficult, however, to have more than one client if you are a personal assistant.
Daycare services
Furniture upholstery services – This is not a big jump for someone who has sewing and talents and is a quick learner. Practice on old furniture and hone your skills first, if upholstery is new to you. Once you feel comfortable with your skill level, go out there and get some clients.
Once you find that no-tech business start-up concept that fits you best and fills a need in your service area, do some heavy research. Learn what you can about the goods or services your company will provide.

Find funding sources. Save money. Borrow money. Find investors. You’ll be surprise what options exist for entrepreneurs trying to get their start-up off the ground. Be resourceful, and do your research.
If possible, seek advice from others with similar business types. You’re likely to find that business owners who don’t perceive you competition, so seek advice from these successful business owners who are not in your geographic area.
Remember: All successful businesses started with a good idea, and it doesn’t have to be a tech-based idea. Start looking for your good idea today!
