Swaha and Brahma are students of class eleven and nine at Shenoy Memorial Government Higher Secondary School, Payannur in Kannur district. The land was gifted to Swaha and Brahma by their father Swargam Shanker.

Swargam, a farmer by profession, had bought the land for one lakh rupees per acre in 1996. He had hoped that one day his children would build a school on the land. He had divided the land into three acres, one acre for his wife and one acre each for his two children. Swaha decided to donate her share of land to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and her brother supported her decision, says The News Minute.

In a letter informing the principal of their school about the decision, Swaha wrote,

“Seeing the plight of the state today, my brother and I, both students of this school, have decided to make a small donation to the Chief Minister’s relief fund. Out of the land my father, a farmer, had set aside for our future, we have decided to donate 1 acre (100 cents) to the fund as a donation. We received permission from our father to do the same. How do we proceed?
