Delhi Police On Lookout For Ex-BSP MP’s Son Who Waved A Gun Outside Posh Hotel

Recently, the video of a man, Ashish Pandey brandishing his gun in front of a couple of people outside the gate of an upscale Delhi hotel went viral. The man as reported by NDTV, is a real estate broker and more importantly,  the son of Rakesh Pandey who is an ex-MP of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The accused has reportedly been charged under the Arms Act but is yet to be arrested.

The incident

As seen in the video, Ashish had a gun in his hand when he was quarrelling with a woman. He was visibly angry and shouted all sorts of obscenities at the woman. The whole incident took place outside the Hyatt Regency Hotel in R K Puram area of the national capital during early hours on Sunday, October 14. The accused was with his friends, and the viral video was recorded by one of his friends who was sitting in the car. It is clear from the footage that there was a scuffle and Ashish was threatening the couple with his gun all while abusing them and the hotel staff who were very scared, didn’t even try to stop him. A friend of the accused along with the lone security guard did try to soothe him, after which he drove away in his car, all while hurling threats and abuses.
Sudhindra Bhadoria, who is associated with BSP commented on the whole issue saying that Ashish is not a part of BSP and the two shouldn’t be linked, adding that ‘proper action should be taken’ against him, reported NDTV.
Ashish who lives in Lucknow and is in the real estate business is known to frequently visit the capital for partying. He also has a brother named Ritesh Pandey who is a BSP legislator in UP. According to the police, his father also has a police record in the past.

The course of action taken

As reported by The Times of India, an FIR has been registered by the Delhi police under the Arms Act and several sections of the Indian Penal Code as well, including Section 323 (causing hurt to a person), Section 506 (criminal coercion) and Section 354 (forcefully insulting a woman’s modesty). Other than that, a show cause notice has also been issued by the police against the hotel for alleged neglect in the matter. A lookout circular (LOC) has also been issued at all the airports. The LOC will make sure that the accused is not able to get out of the country.
Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India tweeted on the whole incident and said that “strong and appropriate action will be taken” against the accused. Reportedly the UP police and Delhi police are working together to catch Ashish and a team of three, headed by inspector Harish Chandra visited his house in Lucknow but were not able to find him there.

The Victim was in shock

According to Firstpost, the victim is the son of former Congress MLA Kanwar Karan Singh. He told the police that his son was traumatized by the whole experience and is very scared because he was threatened with a gun, and it is because of his son’s condition that they did not report the incident earlier. He also said that the police have now taken their statement and that the family believes in the law.

However, his son, Gaurav Singh has released a media statement where he narrated his ordeal. According to The Hindu, Gaurav said that he was at the hotel with his friend who was feeling unwell and hence, paid a visit to the washroom where three women were already in the washroom who misbehaved and bullied his friend. Situations escalated when the duo stepped out of the hotel. It was then that Pandey showed his gun and allegedly said that he would kill Kanwar.
In a statement given by Singh and released by ANI, he writes, “The one man in pink pants walked to me and showed me his gun and said, I will kill you.”
