OnFees and NPCI train students and staff of educational institutions on cashless transactions

OnFees, the online digital fees payment portal designed to make the payment and collection off fees easy and seamless for both educational institutions and students, has teamed up with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), to create awareness among young minds about the need and importance of digital payments and cashless systems. The awareness creation drive is being organised through a series of seminars at select education institutions, including both universities and colleges across the country.
The OnFees and NPCI seminars are designed to train the students, teaching and non-teaching staff about how digital financial transactions, and platforms for online payments, work besides showcasing the benefits of cashless transactions. They aim to encourage increasing levels of digital transactions amongst the students who in turn can educate the other age groups. The awareness creation drive is in keeping with the Indian government’s objective of a Cashless India. The drive was very timely given that the Usage of BHIM UPI and Rupay Cards is increasing and more and more people are now using these cashless payment tools.
So far, the seminars have already been at 50 education institutes across the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, with over 10000+ students and college staff participating. These included institutions in metros like Mumbai and Pune, including many well-known colleges like Ramnarain Ruia College, R.A. Podar College, DY Patil group of Institutes, Vidyalankar Group of Institutes, Guru Nanak Khalsa College, SIES College, GNIMS, Bhavans College, HR College, Sathaye College etc.
A further round of seminars at colleges across the two states is being targeted over the coming months. Speaking about the success of the seminar, NPCI’s Senior Vice President – Marketing & Branding, Mr. Kunal Kalawatia said: “In our journey towards making India a less-cash economy, this is yet another successful initiative to digitise cash usage by targeting youth through the educational institutes. We partner with players in the ecosystem to bring about the change and OnFees was the ideal partner for us for this initiative. Together we have demonstrated how efficiently cashless education in India can work.”
The education institutions were highly appreciative of the effort, pointing out that the awareness creation campaign conducted by OnFees and NPCI was critical in digitising India. Ms. Dipika Bhatia, Vice Principal of HR College, a leading institution under the Mumbai University, said: “The session conducted by NPCI and OnFees for our students and staff was wonderful. Our students will benefit greatly from the insight they got into digital payments, a step forward towards making India cashless”.
The seminar effort came out of an EasyTech Innovations Pvt Ltd (the parent company of Onfees) research which indicated that the educational sector was insufficiently focussed on technology and lacked the digital platforms necessary to drive cashless payments and consequent transparency. The lack of appropriate levels of technology usage in the education sector also created inefficiencies in managing institutional costs. The process of managing fees through cheques and Demand Drafts, currently followed by educational institutions across India, also led to time-consuming processes for students and parents, which caused further inefficiencies in the system.
Dr Shobhana Vasudevan, Principal R.A. Podar College complimented OnFees’ efforts and said: It’s a much needed initiative amongst the youngsters. Now that we are going for digital banking and demonetisation exercises etc, the young people need to be targeted, its easy for them to learn and they are the one’s who have to sustain the initiative of the govt towards the digital related activities. Podar college is happy to be associated with Onfees for such an initiative”.
