“Fashion is freedom”: 19-yr Old’s journey to becoming a successful Digital Fashion Entrepreneur

There is a new name scaling the peaks of the fashion world, one blog at a time and this 19-year-old is bringing her own unique sense of cultural fusion and flavor to the table. Meet Malvika Sheth, an undergrad honors student at Basbson College who says, “Fashion was a place where I could express myself without having to verbally explain who I am” and is a growing name among the fashion entrepreneurs of the world.
This Editor in Chief of the Babson Globe Magazine has already made a footing in the realm of fashion blogging with over 12,500 followers and shining collaborations with JORD Watches, Reebok and Neutrogena.

“I think I leveraged fashion as an outlet to mask my insecurities”

Talking about what led to the conception of StylebyMalvika, she narrated her early connection with styling, “As a slightly plump child, I grew up with body image issues, but I never let this get in the way for my love for style—my friends and family who have known me from then until now would vouch by saying that I’ve always struck a balance between refined and experimental when it comes to the way I dress. In fact, growing up, I think I leveraged fashion as an outlet to mask my insecurities” and stated she wished to, ‘inspire other driven women to learn to leverage fashion as a creative outlet’. Today, the blog has a steady increase in followers spread across two major continents and is a resonating voice about the latest style trends in the industry. When asked about her journey of creating a website she shares, “I had no idea just how many hats I’d have to wear. From SEO and social media expert to video editor, photo editor, and even PR guru, being a digital entrepreneur and content creator proved to be a task that required me to be a jack and master of all trades”.

“She has imbibed many of her grandmother’s ‘philosophies around fashion and beauty’ in pieces of the family heirloom she inherited”

Keeping up with the latest commandments in casual and comfort styling, the Indian-American student sprinkles her own dose of out-of-the-box clothing tips cascading her look of chic and glamour almost effortlessly. She claims, “Growing up with Indian roots has allowed me to have such a deep appreciation for intricate design. Being able to oversee several hand embroidery processes has given me an immense appreciation for detail, especially in handcrafted luxury goods”. She shares a deeply nostalgic bond with her heritage and has imbibed many of her grandmother’s ‘philosophies around fashion and beauty’ in pieces of the family heirloom she inherited. This full-time college student meticulously accounts every minute of her day to accommodate her demanding schedule of being a student entrepreneur.

On being asked about her busy university curricula, she stated, “the entrepreneurial spirit here at Babson College has allowed me to persevere where my StylebyMalvika platform is concerned, and I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world. Yet, it does prove challenging that I have immense time constraints. Since I shoot my outfits nearly each and every day, it’s important that I have the time to actually sit back, reflect, and think about trends and what I’d like to wear”.
Along with a timely update of the clothing conventions in different time frames around the calendar, she also provides a unique portal on her blog which enables one to shop for the look immediately. Sheth strongly believes that fashion reflects societal values and that change is the only constant in our world. Dressing up is a mode of self-motivation to her inspiring one to ‘create a life one wishes to lead’. She heavily relies on creativity to guide comfort and blossom her unconventional fashion in a busy metropolitan backdrop. She thoroughly enjoys every aspect of effort that goes into her own fashion blog and one day wishes to be associated with reigning names in the empire of Fashion News such as Harper’s Bazaar or Vogue. Till then she continues to the challenge the notions of tradition to expand her audience’s wardrobe multitude.
