As part of the Republic Day campaign, Flipkart will give an opportunity to its consumers to make a contribution towards the welfare of martyrs’ families

Bengaluru, 18 January 2019: In the run-up to Republic Day, Flipkart, India’s largest e-commerce marketplace, will be running a  fundraising and awareness campaign with the Vasantharatna Foundation for Arts (VRFA) to honour the families of martyred Indian soldiers. VRFA works to provide a continuous and holistic support system for  the families, via empowerment workshops, counselling, legal assistance etc. Visitors to Flipkart’s website and app from January 18th to 26th will have the opportunity to donate funds to the Foundation.

VRFA works with the wives and children of martyrs to help restore their independence and sense of belonging. This initiative will give the Foundation access to Flipkart’s pan-India user base of 150 million and will allow those shopping on the platform to contribute to a good cause. It will aid VRFA’s continuing work towards women’s empowerment, child and youth development, and general awareness building within the civilian community.

“As a homegrown company, Flipkart is extremely committed to the cause of Indian soldiers. We embarked on this campaign with the Vasantharatna Foundation as a way to pay our respects and show our gratitude to martyred jawans. We are pleased to extend a helping hand to the Foundation and to share this opportunity to contribute towards this important cause with our vast user base this Republic Day. We are hopeful of being able to bring some meaningful impact to the families,” said Rajneesh Kumar, Chief of Corporate Affairs at Flipkart.

“Vasantharatna Foundation for Arts is pleased to come together with Flipkart to honour martyred soldiers. The Foundation provides much needed support to families of martyrs and the funds raised from this initiative will go into the programmes that directly benefit the families. We cannot think of a better way for Indians to show their gratitude as they celebrate this Republic Day,” said Subhashini Vasanth, Founder & Managing Trustee of Vasantharatna Foundation for Arts.

Users who visit the Flipkart platform during this period will be able to contribute to the foundation. Donations for this campaign will start from 5 PM on January 18th, across desktop website, app and the m-site. All donations are exempt under 80G (5) (vi) of the Income Tax Act 1961.

She started VRFA as a platform for other women with a shared history to get together and help each other not only get over their common grief but also to learn to grow beyond it. Presently the organization supports nearly 120 wives and children of martyr jawans in Karnataka. We have plans to reach out to others by going pan India.
