Relocation won’t be counted as a tedious task anymore. Exclusive Interview Gunjan Khambra, Founder MoverDeal

So, how easy or difficult you find is it for you shift from one locale another. Any sane person would always think of this one cumbersome task; which is shifting. Relocation industry hasn’t been so smooth that one can easily think of shifting if one comes across any good or a varied place to reside in. Well, you can say that this has been a sort of a void in markets which hasn’t been bridged as yet. Apart from this one brand, ‘Packers and Movers,’ which other name can you think of? And this question seems very vita as well, that why hasn’t this industry been flooded as yet?

But, we do have a competitor in market now who has taken a step to revolutionize the relocation industry through technology, providing a common platform for customers to experience “Customer Delight” as well as for our business partners to achieve their “Business Goals. MOVERDEAL is dedicated to understanding customer expectations and identifying and developing opportunities that enhance customer supply chain strategies. Our operating philosophy is founded on maintaining the highest level of quality service in the most efficient manner possible. We are committed to continuous process improvement through leadership, innovation, and technology.

Who says such things come handy? Well, there must have been some fierce struggles periods attached to it. Let’s hear their story by the owners themselves.

What is the source of inspiration behind the name of your venture?

Our venture name is “Moverdeal”. It comes from two words

  • Mover – As we are in logistics, a logistics service provider basically moves the goods from one point to other. Our platform is primarily aggregates such logistics service providers or “Movers”.

  • “Deal” – We are one of a kind platform which offers the opportunity for both the customers as well as logistics service providers i.e. “Movers” to come together and strike a deal among themselves, which is a “win-win” situation for both the entities. Therefore, the word “Deal.”

Who all are your target audience/clients?

Our target audience are the individuals who what to relocate, multi-locational corporates/companies who have a regular relocation of their employees from one location to other and going forth we are going to target the larger segment of businesses who have a regular requirement of transportation of their goods from their manufacturing units to the markets.

Your current operations are located in which regions and where are you based at (city, state, country)?

We are currently operational in Delhi NCR as an origin point with destination across India. Our office is in Delhi.

What problems does your venture resolve? What are your products or services?

We witnessed that every person whether in individual capacity or as an employee or as an entrepreneur, at least once in their life time faces the need to avail the services of a logistics service provider. On the other hand for a company, which is manufacturing goods would require a regular logistics support to transport their goods to the market and eventually to the end consumer.

Logistics sector is highly unorganized and unregulated. It is challenging to find a reliable logistics partner who can give the desired level of service and it is even more challenging for an individual who would want to avail such a service probably once in 2-3 years.

On the other hand, with logistics sector being characterized to be highly unorganized and fragmented, the real executors or service providers are highly dependent on the middle men to get business.

Realizing this challenge, we thought of providing a platform wherein both the customers as well as service providers can meet together and strike a deal, which would be mutually beneficial to both the entities.

Further to this with everyone getting used to availing a service or buying a product on a click of a mouse or just a tap on their mobile, we built this web based market place for logistics services. So now one can simply avail logistics services sitting in front of their computers or on their mobiles. The service providers are also now benefited as business directly comes to them without the middlemen. This ensures higher transparency and best deals for both the customers as well as the service providers.

Would you like to share the idea or story behind the foundation of your venture?

Our business name or brand name is Moverdeal and I have already explained the logic behind choosing this name. However, in addition to the company which is behind Moverdeal is Fedeltà Pvt. Ltd. There is an interesting story behind this name.

We wanted to name our company which would signify our loyalty or commitment towards both the customers as well as the service partners. So we pondered on a quite a few options and came across “Allegiance” as the word which we would want to include in the name. However, we found that there are a quite a few number of companies which utilize this word some way or the other as their company name. Therefore, we again went to the drawing board and started to look for words with similar meaning in all the possible languages we could think off. During this we stumbled upon “Fedeltà” which is an Italian word which means “Allegiance”. It immediately struck to us and we adopted it as our company name.

Do you face any rivalry and how do you differentiate yourself from them?

In today’s time if someone says that he/she doesn’t have any competition then they are actually lying to themselves. There is competition is every walk of life and every sector you pick up. Same is the case with us. We want to turn the logistics sector on its head and move it from being a traditional, run of the mill sector to a professionally managed, tech savvy and customer oriented, organized business.

The biggest challenge is the mind set itself, of both, the customer as well as the service providers which we intend to change.

How do you identify your co-founder? Would you like to tell us something about them?

We are a team and complement each other in work. It’s like two gears which are joined together to drive the machine effortlessly.

What is your idea of team formulation? What type of qualities do you search for in your team?

We are currently a very lean team and as every startup are highly motivated to make the difference. The qualities which are needed for an organization like ours are self-belief, self-motivated, problem solver and to a large extent fear less towards minor hiccups which one encounters daily.

What are your growth or expansion plans for the next 2 or 5 years?

We are currently concentrating on B2C segment which is primarily the “Relocation Services”. However, going forth we would be entering into a proper B2B segment, which would entail a wider coverage of the entire spectrum of Logistics sector.

Where do you see yourself 10 years down the line?

We sincerely hope to be one of the most preferred online logistics service aggregators and market place.

What are your short term goals?

We are currently focusing on getting the Moverdeal brand the visibility which it needs along with generating enough revenues to grow organically. The second goal of ours, sow the seeds of the concept of organized logistics sector with services as well as business being available from the comfort of your living room.

Have you risen any funding yet? Are you looking for the same?

We are a completely boot strapped organization, funding the development and operations from our own savings.

On raising funds, I would be lying if I say we don’t need money. Yes we would welcome anyone who would like to strategically invest in us with a long term goal. Any such investor, we would be more than happy to explore the possibility of an association. It would only help us in putting our plans into overdrive which otherwise might take some time.

Please share your incubation days struggle issues while setting up this venture, and how did you resolve them?

The biggest challenge for us was the technology, as we are not 18-20 year old kids who are good with computers and who only know how to write a script. We always knew when it comes to execution, we have the experience as well as capability and it was the technology which we needed a bit of support. Thank fully we did eventually found the right people who supported us and are still with us.

One of the things which people forget is that you may build a great platform but at the end of the day you need to execute the business idea. The platform is just a support function to your idea. It is nothing more than a phone in your hand.

What was or has been the most challenging part of your journey? How do you overcome the same?

As I shared, it was finding the right technology support and when you are intend on doing something, more often than not, you end up achieving it. So was the case with us, we found the right set of people who could understand the concept we had in our mind. However, still we needed to hand hold them at every step to achieve what we conceptualized.

What is your idea of stress management?

As an entrepreneur you are bound to be stressed as there is a lot at stake. I believe more than money it is the self-belief which is at stake and with even a small roadblock in front it may be shaken. But, every time you hit a road block you have to think of overcoming that instead of giving in to it. The time until you find the solution is the most stress full but once you are over the road block you come out wiser and with time you learn to keep yourself cool.

What do you do to escape the work life in your leisure time?

Generally, as woman you can hardly escape the work life as you have to double up as home maker as well. I guess we women can handle the stress levels much smoothly than men do. However, I would still catch up on my workout and sleep when I have time.

Where would you like to escape to for a holiday?

Any place which is quite away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Whom do you consider your idol/role model or biggest motivator and why?

My mother, because she has been the guiding force in mine as well as my siblings life. She has taught the lesson of how strong a woman is and how to never give up.

What makes entrepreneurs different from service class professionals?

We are believers and just take the plunge because we believe in ourselves.

Which part of your life would you like to rewrite if given a chance to restart with your career today?

I think nothing, as the reason I thought of building this venture was due to the learning which I gathered over the period of my career so far.

How has being an entrepreneur affected your family & Social life?

It didn’t change much as I am still the mother, still the wife and the woman of the house. I am a social person and socialize when it is work related. The family get together and holiday’s are the biggest stress busters.

Is there anything, you’d like to say to our readers or upcoming entrepreneurs?

I would say just believe in yourself. That is the most important thing which would keep you focused towards your goal. I may sound very cliché but that’s the truth.

Tell us something about your education & family background.

I am an all-out management graduate with both graduation and post-graduation in Business Management. My parents belong to Uttar Pradesh, wherein the main occupation of the family was farming, shifted to Delhi almost 45 years back. My father who was the only graduate amongst his siblings moved from the ancestral home to Delhi and started with a small business and eventually got into construction business. My mother has been a home maker ever since. I am blessed to be the only sister among three brothers, one being elder to me and the rest two younger to me. All of them are settled with their own careers.

What is your USP or biggest strength that makes you stand apart from your competitors?

We are a biding platform. See, as a woman, I love to bargain. It is how women are made. That is what I have created in my logistics platform, a chance for everyone to get the best deal both in terms of quality of service as well as price.

Why do you think start-ups are so vulnerable to the external business environment? What according to you are the threats to their stability?

Biggest challenge is to keep one self, motivated. There are a lot of opportunities and at the same time the competition. It’s an ever changing world now a days. Things which were latest up till yesterday become obsolete today. So one has to keep himself/herself motivated to adapt.

Another thing which is important and is especially true for startups is and that too tech based, it is easy to create a site but what you should be focused on is the execution of the business model because that is what will make your venture successful. Technology will only support you. You need to execute.

Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?

As an individual yes I consider myself successful. Being successful doesn’t only mean being wealthy, although it is what we all desire, it also mean that you create something, whether for your family or for people at large which may benefit them. So, in that context I thing I am on the path of being successful.
