Rakesh Kumar, VP – Sales and Business Development at Yugasa says that Indian IT market is progressing with a promising pace. 1.What is the Name of Your Venture? Any specific reason for this name?
We are Yugasa Software Labs Pvt Ltd. It was an abstract thought to name ourselves like that but a Buddhist temple in South Korea has its name Yugasa. We find ourselves connected with that name and culture now. A group of people working with sacred thoughts towards upliftment of technical world.
2.Who is your target Audience/clients?
We are a global outsourcing / offshoring software development company with a current client base of around 150 spread across 22 countries. Our target audience is primarily the software services companies who work around similar technologies we do. We target technology startups both at the domestic as well as international level and provide software consultancy to end-clients from various industries like Healthcare, Fintech, Sports and Retail.
3.Where is your venture based (city, state, country) & What are your geographical target areas?
We are based in Gurugram, in the Delhi NCR region.

4.What problems does your venture resolve? What are your products or services?
Being in the IT industry with software development expertise, our primary objective is to resolve challenges organizations and industry face on a daily basis – be it giving a company a brand new image, streamlining their internal communication and collaboration, workflow management, document management or just a mobile app to enhance their visibility are just a few ways we touch thousands of lives everyday.
Our services include custom web and mobile apps development. We have an inhouse Product Development team. We own multiple IPs of some really out of the box products. We have developed online communication tools facilitating Video Calling. Yet another communication tool is Yugasa Chatbots. We are currently developing a unique HR tool which addresses problems of new employee no show.
5.Share the idea or story behind the venture. How did it come to an existence? What motivated you to start your own venture?
Founding members of the company possess 15+ years of industry experience and had held positions of repute and responsibility in different multinational assignments, before they started Yugasa. Other highly experienced members on managing board of our company make us more skilled and mature than its formal age of incorporation. Starting Yugasa was long cherished and a thoughtful action. Technology’s plunge with newer automatic features in last decade is fascinating. Those who understand and love technology have certainly decided to do things their own way and that is how we decided about Yugasa.
6.Who are your biggest competitors and how do you differentiate yourself from them?
We are fortunate enough to have some strong competitors who keep boosting us to perform better than what we do already. Indian companies providing IT services and solutions are our competitors. Our endless efforts to keep our clients on highest priority and the insatiable urge to upgrade ourselves to newer heights technically are what make us different from our competition. Developers at Yugasa are trained to not settle down with good. We all endeavor to produce the best. Our care towards employee satisfaction makes us a genial employer too.
7.How did you hire your first team members? What skills Do you want in your employees/team?
Initial hiring was challenging. We were aware that we were building our core team at that time who was destined to design our company’s culture. Having Shobhit as “VP-Technology” on Yugasa’s board was a good decision during our early days. Further hiring in technical team was always focused towards finding people who are flexible enough to adopt the changes in the technology. Our Mission Mantra is to be the quickest adopter of new technology happening in our domain and provide benefits of our such new learning to our clients at the earliest. We hire those professionals who love technical challenges and aim to learn new every moment.
8.What expansion plans are you looking for the next 2 years, next 5 years?
Yugasa had excellent organic growth since its inception. We grew at an angle of 90 degree and are prepared to retain the same tempo of growth in coming years too. We are looking forward to double fold ourselves in next 2 year in terms of strength and revenue, both. Indian businesses have grown much vigilant about automation in last few years. This has uplifted IT’s demand in Indian business eco-system. We are willing to work for bigger corporate houses also in India now. AND that shall remain our area of focus in coming years.
9.Have you raised any funding? Or have any plans for the funding?
We have not raised any funding so far and nor are we looking for it right now. Yugasa’s organic growth has been excellent since we started. We always deliver quality to our clients and hence most of them have come with multiple repeat business. We still aim to keep adding more of newer customers. This allows us to keep growing in numbers with better financial figures and keep adding more technical skills within our team.
10.What were the problems you faced during the starting days and how did you resolve them?
Every phase brought its own new challenge initially. Finding an office space, having secured IT infrastructure, talent hiring, catering business, everything took an effort to get settled. There is only one solution to every problem and that is to stay calm, patient, focused and consistent. Having believe in yourself and keep trying to achieve success are the keys to manage such challenges.
11.What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?
I love travelling, shopping and cooking. My mom and my wife both had been excellent cooking gurus for me.
12.Whom do you consider your idol or biggest motivator?
My father and my brother have always been the biggest motivator and guide for me throughout. They both have been a constant source of my newer learning and energy daily. My father delivers us lectures of his experiences even today. One of his very precious lectures is to “Learn from the experiences of others”. This means that every man is a Guru and can make one learn new.
13.If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
I started in sales and then moved to production in a brick and mortar company and later joined IT. Diversity in my job profile during my different assignments made me Jack of many skills. I am happy with how things moved in my career. But yes, I wish if I would had spent more time in sales and would had started Yugasa earlier.

I spent initial some time of my entrepreneurship in anxiety and worries. Life is always full of challenges and steering ahead towards success should only be ones goal. Growing worried solves nothing and indeed pushes one back. Beginning of everything is tough and problems will never come to an end. So enjoy the journey of your startup at its every stage.
15. What do you think is the biggest threat to the success of small businesses & Start-ups today?
Biggest threat is lack of innovation and commitment. Starting a business is not a substitute to job. One should not plan a business just because he could not achieve success in job interviews. Business is meditation and an art which needs practice. Do not start because someone else did a business and got success. Do not start with an intent to sell the company. Bring something innovative for the world. Intention to start a copied idea with a vision to just avail funding is a threat to the startup world today.
