Delhi Woman Recalls How An Auto Driver Not Only Dropped Her Safely At Midnight, Even Refused To Take Fare

While Delhi is considered one of the most unsafe cities for women, a recent incident has opened the nation’s eyes to the existence of an unsung hero, an auto driver who not only ensured that a woman reached her destination safely at night but also refused to take any money from her. While horrific incidents in the national capital, especially the 2012 Nirbhaya case, have naturally created a fear in the minds of women who travel alone, Kolkata-based Neha Das is “so glad to have met him!”

“There is always good in things around us”

With the temperature already dropping in Delhi, Neha left her office almost at midnight, and the streets were empty. She waited outside her office to board an auto when this auto driver, Praveen Ranjan, stopped. Ranjan told Neha that he does not take any money from women at night and that it is more important to drop them safely at their destination.
Neha took to Facebook to write about her experience. “Thank God for such nice, genuine people. It is always good at things around us. We probably don’t come across it often,” she wrote, also mentioning that she wondered if this gentleman was “for real”.

He refused to take money

“I offered him money, but he just did not want to take it. His priority was to drop me safely at my destination. However, I forced him to take some money from me finally,” Neha told The Logical Indian. She further said that she did not take an office cab due to personal reasons.
“Upon reaching my destination, I asked Ranjan if I could take a photograph of him, and he agreed gladly,” she said.

Facebook post made private

However, Neha’s Facebook post which was going viral has recently been made private by her, so that only her Facebook friends can view it. In conversation with The Logical Indian, she said, “There are people who probably do not understand the importance of the post and made derogatory comments, which is why I decided not to share it publicly.”
With so many terrible ordeals that women have to go through every day, Ranjan has restored our faith in humanity. He has made us believe that there are good people in this world, people who make the world a better place, and we come across them every now and then. salutes Praveen Ranjan for doing his part to make the country a safer place for women, and for being a true hero and a wonderful human being.
