Organic Food India Conclave (OFIC 2019) ends on a positive note

Mumbai: Tefla’s has been one of India’s distinctive players within the gambit of conferences, exhibitions and awards. ICCOA is knowledge and learning centre for Organic Agriculture and Agribusiness. ICCOA envisions becoming a ‘knowledge and learning centre’ for all facets of organic agriculture, while working as an interface organization for the organic movement. Organised by Tefla’s in association with ICCOAOrganic Food India Conclave – OFIC 2019, Conference & Exhibition on Organic Food & Beverages was scheduled on Saturday, 31st August, 2019 at Novotel Juhu, Mumbai. More than 300 delegates from all over the country participated in this event.
The event provided detailed analysis on the global organic food and beverage market and deliberate on issues of organic and conventional foods and beverages, per capita organic consumption in different regions, organic cropland distribution, and regional organic food and beverage imports.
Chief Guest Shri. C. Lalrinsanga, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Mizoram addressed the gathering during the Inaugural Ceremony and also graced the occasion during the Evening Award Ceremony. He said, “Our Government is focused on Organic farming since 1990s and The Mizoram Organic Farming Bill-2004 was unanimously passed by the Mizoram Legislative Assembly in July 2004, and since then I have supported only organic farming techniques like vermiculture, composting, use of crop residue, animal manures, green manures, off-farm organic wastes to supply organic manures like Neem cake, Celrich, etc. to the needy farmers to supplement their plant nutrient requirement, crop rotation incorporating legumes and use of Bio-Fertilizers, Organic manures, biological pest control to maintain soil productivity. I personally ensure regular training to the farmers as well as regular audits by certifying agencies.”

“Mission Organic Value Chain Development for Northeast East Region (MOVCD-NER) is implemented in the region and is focusing on the cultivation of tea, Mizo chilies, turmeric, ginger and also  Mizo Chili which has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Mizoram government is looking forward to tie up with global entrepreneurs in the organic movement. We have also established Organic Markets to help farmers sell their produce at fair prices and become economically profitable. We also provide incentives and financial assistance to deserving and needy farmers.”
Hon’ble Minister added.

The growing market quantitative data presented by Mr. Manoj Kumar Menon, Executive Director, ICCOA during the conference states the following:

  • Demand side: Market size @ 2018-19
    • Exports value: Rs. 5400 crores plus (USD 760 million)
    • Domestic markets: Rs. 1500 cr plus; Total Rs. 6900 cr (USD 970 mn)
    • World Organic trade at USD 90 bn (Rs. 6,40,000 crores)
  • Supply side: Currently from India’s certified lands, value-
    • Estimated value of worth USD 1.7 -2.5 billion (raw production)
      • From 11. 84 lakh ha of cultivated land; and 3.71 million ha of wild harvest
    • Annual growth of 25 %
  • With value addition/processing, add another 20-25 %
    • World trade to cross USD 100 bn in 2-3 years
    • India target min 5 % of Global trade (USD 5 bn by 2020)!

ICCOA is currently managing over 65000 hectares and working with 110,000 farmers in Organic Projects across sixteen states in India . The organic revolution is an opportunity for rural enterprises to cater to the market needs and grow multifold in coming years” Mr. Menon added.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Vijay Sardana, International Agri Business Value Chain Expert & Member CDAC, SEBI, Public Interest Director – MSE said “The consumer is sometimes confused about the authenticity of the product being organic or not and to overcome this challenge we must ensure that the organic product pricing is same or less than that of the non organic products. Presently the companies have to build trust that their products are organic and back it up by certification from recognised agencies”.
Mr. Kailash Singh, MD, Tefla’s & Event Organizer said “Organic Food India Conclave (OFIC) 2019 is our first attempt to create a platform to bring together various players and boost this nascent industry. The event has the potential to turnaround the entire ecosystem and brings about a positive change in the farmers’ lives as well by increasing their incomes multifold apart from giving them and the consumers’ poison-free food”. 
Participation in this event was observed by those individuals involved in strategic planning, marketing, sales, and development of organic foods and beverages.
