The next leg of growth in India’s startup ecosystem to come from the North-East Region

The North Eastern Region of India is commonly known for its natural beauty in abundance, the mind-blowing hilly terrains and the unique traditions prevalent across the seven states. From the world’s first organic states to India’s cleanest city, the NER has given many firsts to the country as well as the world. However, more than often NER states are not given their due share of attention, recognition, and appreciation. But now the scenario is changing and for good. The government of India has become more proactive in their development projects under ‘Act East’ Policy that are expected to strengthen the connection between the NER states with the rest of India. This connection is expected to go beyond the business and cultural integrations and promote an inclusive economy and as well as emotional growth.

India’s business ecosystem and NER’s contribution

India is the fifth-largest economy in the world and aims to become the third-largest economy by 2025. Our country is the second-largest in the world when it comes to the number of start-ups operating and the population of young people in the world. India is a young country, very much aware of its power, resources and the aspects that will contribute to its journey of becoming the third-largest economy in the world. NER is an important landscape of India with the highest number of educated as well as hardworking youth in India. With their unique approach towards music, fashion, food and more, people from NER have played an instrumental role in each industry of India. For ages, the young educated and dedicated people from NER have looked at metro cities of India to grab lucrative jobs that match their education qualification and skills. However, the business ecosystem in NER is expected to experience a big boost which will amplify the region’s contribution to the growth of the overall economy.

Initiatives to make NER a business destination

Many government organizations, as well as individuals, have been contributing to ensure growth in the business ecosystem in NER. On one hand, GOI’s ‘Act East’ Policy is enabling faster construction of international highways, seaports, airports, railways and more, the state governments, on the other hand, are focusing to nurture the unique skills and ambitious entrepreneurs. Assam Startup’s The Nest launched by Assam Govt. aims to nurture next 1000 startups in the state and create over 1 lakh jobs. Similar,  state govt. of Meghalaya, Manipur and other states have focused policies and activities to promote the entrepreneurial activities in the respective states.

eXcellerate North East business summit to provide a big boost

Along with various contribution by the government, many private players are focusing on contributing to the growing local economy of NER. One such platform is eXcellerate North East business summit, scheduled to take place in Guwahati between 13-15th December at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre. The summit aims to organize result oriented sessions that can promote inclusive growth. It is one of its kind summit cum expo cum networking platform that is expected to welcome 300+ national as well as international delegates. Considered as the gateway to ASEAN countries, North-East Region has always received support from them. Hence, delegates from Bangladesh, Vietnam, Laos and more countries will be seen engaging with the home-grown business leaders.
