One each from Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, along with seven deaths from Kerala, two from Punjab, and one each from Chhattisgarh and Kerala were reported as new cases of the disease-related deaths across the nation.

With this, 5,24,954 COVID-19-related deaths in India have now been officially confirmed.

The total number of open cases increased to 24,867, with 13,614 of them in Mumbai. These were followed by 5,488 instances in Thane, a nearby city, and 2,443 cases in the districts of Pune.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the situation in the nation on Thursday in light of the spike in cases across many states.

Mandaviya has instructed officials to keep concentrating on surveillance and whole-genome sequencing to look for any potential alterations while putting an emphasis on sufficient testing and efficient monitoring to quickly assess the spread of COVID-19.

In response to an increase in COVID-19 cases in some states, Mandaviya, who presided over a meeting with important experts and officials, emphasized the need to concentrate on the districts reporting high case positivity and to carry out adequate testing (with a higher proportion of RT-PCR) and effective surveillance to assess and control the spread of the infection in a timely manner, according to a statement from the Union Health ministry.

According to the report, the minister instructed staff to keep concentrating on surveillance and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to look for any potential mutations.
