The BCCI regulations to be followed by IPL franchises
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked all the IPL franchises that no team would leave for the UAE before 20th August. There were stories that both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are looking ahead to go for Abu Dhabi around August 10 or 12.
“The IPL teams had been directed by an email from the IPL Governing Council that they are not supposed to leave for UAE before 20th August. Now, there is no question of anyone going there before that as the directions are pretty clear here,” IANS quoted a franchise official.
“We have not received the SOPs still, we have been granted the go-ahead to commence preparation, and the visa procedure will start from tomorrow itself. The hotels have already been booked, so that is no issue, and the blueprints are ready,” the franchise official said.
While the BCCI published the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to the state associations for cricket resumption on Sunday, and the IPL teams are awaiting for the same. However, they are beginning the visa procedure from tomorrow (Monday).
The BCCI is hopeful about arranging the complete go-ahead from the government in the upcoming week to relocate the tournament to UAE. “The BCCI has obtained permission from the Sports Ministry, and we are expecting a positive response from the other departments quite shortly as well,” a BCCI official said.
As for the SOPs, the BCCI in a statement said: “The Governing Council has discussed the comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures, which will be finalized and published in the scheduled course that includes the agencies to produce and deliver a bio-secure environment for the secure and successful handling of IPL 2020 Season.”
It is assumed that the team strength in terms of playing members will be 24 in the eight franchises. In another significant decision, the IPL GC has approved the women’s IPL.
