America caught Chinese spies: Tension may escalate further

The latest strain in the United States and China relationship has added to the escalation in the US-China conflict. A citizen of Singapore has been convicted of working as a Chinese spy in the United States.

According to US officials, Jun Wei Yeo was running a political consultancy in the US, through which he was gathering information for China’s intelligence agency.

Apart from this, a Chinese researcher has also been detained, who is accused of hiding her relations with the Chinese army.

Earlier, China had ordered the closure of the US Consulate General in Chengdu.

China did this as retaliation because the US closed the Chinese Embassy in Houston.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave the reason behind the decision that China was “stealing” intellectual property.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman had said in response that this step of the US was based on the “mess created by the Chinese lies”.

Chinese diplomats were given 72 hours to leave Houston, which ended at four in the evening.

Journalists saw that after the deadline was over, some men, who seemed to be American officials, forcibly opened the door and entered the Chinese Embassy. The staff of the US State Department’s Diplomatic Security Bureau stood at the entrance.

Tensions between the two nuclear power nation-states are increasing over many issues.

President Trump’s administration has repeatedly confronted China on various issues. Be it trade, the coronavirus epidemic, or the disputed new security law implemented by the Chinese in Hong Kong.

The Singaporean Citizen:

The US Department of Justice said in a statement that Jun Wei Yeo, whose other name is Dixon Yeo, was convicted by a federal court on Friday that he worked as an illegal agent of the Chinese government in 2015–19 Was doing.

He was caught with the allegations that he is collecting important and non-public information by running a political consultancy in the country and giving it to Chinese intelligence.

Jun Wei Yeo also admitted that he used to find Americans with high-level security clearance and then used to write reports for their fake clients. Yeo was arrested in 2019.

The Researcher:

According to US officials, the 37-year-old researcher’s name is Juan Tang.

She was among the four Chinese nationals who were caught earlier this week in a visa fraud case.

She is accused of allegedly hiding the fact that she was working for the Chinese Army.

The US accused the Chinese Embassy in San Francisco of harboring Juan. After which Juan Tang was detained from California along with four people.

However, it is not clear how Juan was arrested.

According to the report of the Association Press, the FBI has found pictures of Juan Tang, in which she is seen in the army uniform and some articles have also been found in which she is said to be associated with the army.

The University of California has been quoted in the news that she quit the job of the visiting researcher in the Department of Radiation Oncology in June.

Now it remains to be seen how this tension between China and the US will unfold.
