Despite not being physically present during the Chandrayaan-3 landing, PM Modi virtually attended the event from Bengaluru. He congratulated ISRO Chairman S Somanath and his team for the remarkable achievement of successfully landing on the lunar south pole region. This achievement solidified India’s position as a spacefaring nation. It established it as the first country to accomplish such a feat, reflecting India’s continued dedication to space exploration and scientific advancement.

Chandrayaan-3, a subsequent mission to the Chandrayaan-2 launched in 2019, is designed to achieve three primary objectives:

  1. It aims to demonstrate a safe and successful soft landing on the lunar surface, a feat not accomplished during the Chandrayaan-2 mission.
  2. The mission intends to showcase the rover’s ability to navigate and explore the Moon’s surface.
  3. Chandrayaan-3 aims to conduct in-situ scientific experiments on the lunar terrain.

On Wednesday, August 23, at 6:04 pm, ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 achieved a significant milestone with its successful landing on the Moon’s surface. Over the next two weeks, the mission will embark on experiments conducted by the lander module (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan). These experiments will provide valuable insights and data about the Moon’s surface and composition, contributing to our understanding of lunar geology and its potential for scientific exploration.

Recently, on Friday, the Pragyan rover demonstrated its mobility on the lunar surface by traveling a distance of 8 meters, as confirmed by ISRO. Although the soft landing goal of the Chandrayaan-3 mission was not achieved, ISRO successfully positioned its orbiter in lunar orbit, continuing to gather crucial data and insights.
