Modi government warns Justin Trudeau, Canada from refraining from commenting on its internal matters; on the former’s comment on Farmers protest in the country

The Indian government has warned Justin Trudeau, Canada, from refraining from any personal comments on farmers’ protests in the country.

The Modi government seems to be on the warpath and in no mood to listen to any remarks from countries and their respective governments to comment on the internal matters; in this case, the Farmers protest.

In a strong message to Canada and the prime minister Justin Trudeau, India summoned the Canadian envoy to register a strong protest against the remarks made by the prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and the country’s parliamentarians on the ongoing farmers protest in the country and warned that the remarks would seriously damage the bilateral ties between the two countries.

New Delhi and the Modi government seem to have taken a major diplomatic offensive if Canada continued to interfere in India’s domestic matters and the center on Friday warned the Canadian government of serious damage to bilateral ties between the two countries.

MEA reacts to Canadian govt's remarks, says Trudeau commended India for holding dialogue with protesting farmers | India News,The Indian Express

Earlier this week, the Canadian prime minister had extended his support to the farmers’ protest in the country. He said, “I would be remiss if I didn’t start by recognizing the news coming out of India about the protests by farmers. The situation is concerning, and we are all very worried about family and friends. I know that’s the reality for many of you.” His political rhetoric has drawn widespread criticism from the political parties, especially BJP.

The former has accused the Canadian government, saying that the comments have encouraged extremist activities in front of India’s high commission and Consulates in Canada that have raised safety and security issues.

The Indian government has said that they exact the Canadian government to ensure the fullest security of Indian diplomatic personnel and its political leaders to refrain from pronouncements that legitimize extremist activism,” the Modi government said.

It needs to be noted that the Trudeau government has also been a supporter of Khalistanis in Canada.

In response, the Modi government has not only to registered its protest against Trudeau’s humoring of Khalistanis but Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had also expressed his displeasure over the Canadian Prime Minister’s politics during his visit to India.

The country amidst the Coronavirus pandemic is also witnessing the farmers’ protest regarding the three agri bills passed by the government.

The farmers initially from Punjab who were protesting against the three

farm bills have seen support from farmers from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. They are now growing to a significant farmers’ protest movement.

The farmers have been protesting against the government for the Minimum Guaranteed Price change for their produce.

The farmers in their movement – “Delhi Chalo,” have been gathering a mass movement and, in their protest, walked towards New Delhi to register their reservation against the three Farm Bills passed.

Along the way, the farmers have endured much in the form of tear-gassing, blockades—Lathi charge by the police, water cannons, and diggings of national highways along New Delhi to block their advancement.

The government, Amit Shah, had also appealed to the farmers to congregate in large fields designated for them and to hold peaceful talks with the government.

As of now, no agreement has been reached between the farmers and the Modi Government.

Instead, a word of words has broken out between the Canadian Prime Minister and the Modi government, where the latter has cautioned the former from restraining to comment in what is a domestic matter of the country.

Ironically, the country’s farmers’ community has not received much support from the citizens. Instead, a foreign country and its government should express its support and comment on the whole protest.

In an official statement, the MEA has said that the Canadian High Commissioner was summoned and informed that the comments by PM Justin Trudeau, some Cabinet ministers, and parliamentarians on the farmers protest in India were “unacceptable interference in our internal affairs”.

The Indian government further stated that “Such actions, if continued, would have a seriously damaging impact on ties between India and Canada. These comments have encouraged gatherings of extremist activities in front of our High Commission and Consulates in Canada that raise issues of safety and security,”

“We expect the Canadian Government to ensure the fullest security of Indian diplomatic personnel and its political leaders to refrain from pronouncements that legitimize extremist activism,” the MEA said.

It needs to be noted that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was the first international leader to talk about the farmers’ protest taking place in India.

He was expressing his opinion on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak (Gurpuruab) when he said that he was concerned about the situation (Farmers protest)

He was interacting online with Canadians from the Sikh community. Justin Trudeau said, “I would be remiss if I didn’t start by recognizing the news coming from India about the protest by farmers. The situation is concerning. We are all very worried about family and friends.”

He also added that Canada represented and stood for peaceful protests and would continue to express its concerns and defend the rights of peaceful protest in India.

The Modi government, on its part, has hit out and severely back at Justin Tredue and some other Canadian leaders who have support3d the farmers protest in the country over their remarks on the farmers protest at and around New Delhi, saying that they are ill-informed and unwarranted.

The MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava in an official statement has said it is India’s internal matter, and the comments were unjustified.

However, the farmers protesting would definitely be encouraged from the fact that instead of the Modi government, it is the government of a foreign country that has registered its concerns over the farm bills and has actually said something in the matter and showed support for the same.
