Following a surge in Covid cases, schools throughout Delhi-NCR have leapt into action. They are adopting different precautions, including frequent sanitization, limiting the spread of the virus and thereby averting campus closure.

Other steps taken by the schools include shutting a specific classroom when someone tests positive and asking parents not to bring their children to school without masks.

However, they all agree that future school closures are not a viable option.

According to Shubhi Soni, Head, The Shri Ram Wonder Years, Rohini, Coronavirus will never go away, but the hype around it will.

“In the next years, it will be reduced to an endemic, influenza, and seasonal flu.” The present increase in Covid cases results from the government’s decision to make mask-wearing optional in public areas.

“We must not wait for the situation to worsen, and stringent measures must be implemented immediately to handle the situation,” Soni added.

She claims that if their child’s health is jeopardized, the parent community will panic.

“In such a situation, the move should be to allow a blended approach to learning, which means starting three days of offline schooling and two days of online schooling in a staggered manner,” she said. “School closures, in any way, are not the solution because students have regressed in their learning and it has taken a huge toll on their social and emotional well-being.”

In the city, the number of pupils testing positive for drugs increases, causing anxiety among parents. The Delhi government has instructed school officials to close individual wings or classes.

Anshu Mital, Principal, MRG School, Rohini, stated that they are taking all required precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including routine cleaning and disinfection of classrooms, physical distance, and staggering dispersals, and the use of open areas for activities.

“Our first aim is to maintain close surveillance to guarantee the health of students and staff management. The wellness staff, led by a counsellor, is always accessible to answer parents’ concerns and ensure the learners’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being ” As responsible citizens, we must verify the accuracy of news and solely trust facts. We must not fall prey to false information, instilling panic among stakeholders and the broader public.

As a teacher, I hope that there are no school closings and that we can provide our pupils with ongoing and high-quality learning, “she stated

The Shri Ram Millenium School in Noida has decided to switch to online lessons if three pupils in a section test positive for Covid in a short period.

“If a student or instructor tests positive while at school, the whole class gives the information. If the student takes the bus, data is also transmitted to other bus riders on the same route. For carpool students, the information is forwarded to the appropriate group.

Please be aware that information is only released once the school has received a confirmed diagnosis and lab report from a student or teacher who has tested positive, “In a statement, the school added.

“If a student or staff member tests positive, they must miss school and return only after recovering. Before students return to school, they must submit a negative RTPCR report.

“If the student has a sibling in school, the sibling is likewise forced to miss a week of school until the student has recovered. If a family member tests positive, the kid or staff member must also be placed on a seven-day quarantine “It was also added.

According to Alka Kapur, principal of Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh’s whole school is no longer a possibility.

“The situation is not serious, and we are taking all necessary efforts to avoid another round of closures.” However, if the government makes such a move, we must respond favourably.

“All students and staff must wear face masks and adhere to school and government laws.” We should urge kids to wash their hands frequently, and every student should have at least one bottle of hand sanitizer in their backpack. We may avoid possible risks by taking all of these steps,” she stated.

On Saturday, Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, stated that while coronavirus infections have been on the rise in the city, there is no reason to be concerned because hospitalization rates are low.

Schools’ infection reports have raised worries only weeks after they reopened for fully online classrooms after a two-year hiatus due to the epidemic.
