Sources said that in view of the situation of corona infection in Delhi it is not possible to give any relaxation in lockdown. Significantly, the Union Home Ministry has given permission to open shops coming in and out of the Municipal Corporation and the Municipality with certain conditions.

Paper and stationery traders will not open shops right now

Paper and stationery businesses in Delhi are currently confused about opening shops. While the Central Government has issued a notification regarding the opening of shops, on the other hand, these traders have not received any such information from the Delhi Government. The Delhi Paper Merchants Association has decided not to open shops till the Delhi Government order comes.

Sending a message to all the member shopkeepers, Piyush Jain, General Secretary of Delhi Paper Merchants Association, has requested the members to wait for the order of Delhi government and don’t take hasty decisions on the basics of order issued by the central government on 24 April 2020 whereby single shops located in the Green Zone with the restrictions can open. In the context of this order, the Delhi government will now notify it and make another order.

School students will be affected more

This move of paper traders will have the most impact on school students. Due to the closure of paper business, students may face problems in getting notebooks and other types of stationery.

All the traders of Chawri Bazaar, the largest paper market in Delhi, have been made aware of this association’s decision, after which the traders have decided  not to open the shop at present.

It is worth noting that in most parts of Delhi NCR, school students’ copies, registers and other stationery are supplied from Chawri Bazaar and New Road Shops only.

The association has told all the paper traders of Chawdi Bazaar that shops offices, godowns will remain closed until any new information comes from the Delhi government. After this decision of the association, students may have to wait a little longer to buy writing material.
