Adani Group Acquires One of India’s largest Aviation Services Providers for Rs 400 cr

Business tycoon Gautam Adani made a deal with The Menon family who has agreed to sell its aviation maintenance business for a price of Rs 400 crore.

Adani Defence Systems & Technologies under Adani Group is the entity that the purchase is made through and will accquire 100% of Air Works from Menon’s and other owners like GTI Capital, Punj Lloyd Aviation and the firm’s employee welfare fund.

Adani Defence Systems & Technologies has inked contracts to buy Air Works. Air Works is one of the most significant pan-Indian presences spread across 27 locations.

The acquisition will help Adani’s growing aviation maintenance sector. This deal is done ahead of government’s plan to privatise AI Engineering Services. Adani will also hire more than 900 maintenance workers from Air Works. Furthermore, the acquisition will also broaden his airport holdings.

CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace Ashish Rajvanshi, in a statement, said that with India’s growth trajectory and the government’s aim to connect the country through a large mesh of air connectivity, it seems certain that the country’s airline and airport sector would experience its most rapid expansion in the years to come.

The CEO added that the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry is critical to both the defence and civilian aircraft sectors. Add to it the continuing modernization programme aimed at making India a significant market for defence aircraft, and one of the most exciting, at-scale, comprehensive and digital Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul services available within the country’s borders.

Meanwhile, it is anticipated that India’s MRO industry will increase by three times by 2030, from $1.7 billion to $5 billion. In addition to Air Works and AI Engineering Services, another well-known Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) player is the GMR Aero Technic run by business billionaire G M Rao from the South.

Besides, the acquisition of Air Works is one of several in the defence sector that the Adani Group has made in recent years.

Adani Defence & Aerospace division also formed a partnership with the Israeli business Elbit Systems. The company hopes to secure numerous contracts through this joint venture with the Indian armed forces for loitering weapons and its drone and counter-drone needs.

The Adani Group also made a significant acquisition with the purchase of Bengaluru-based Alpha Designs, a company that serves the aerospace industry.

Prior to this, the Adani Group had taken over PLR Systems, a joint venture between it and the Israeli Weapons Industry (IWI). The Adani Group seeks to fulfill a range of small arms demands, such as snipers and assault rifles, for the Indian armed forces and police through this project.
