Amazon Provides A Helping Hand To Local Shopkeepers And Retailers

Coronavirus has created a turmoil in the entire world. The spread is so rapid that today the total coronavirus cases in world has reached 2.95m. The death toll has reached 205k and 861k people have recovered till now. It is wreaking havoc in the entire world. Each country today is battling its spread.

People are locked up in their homes, economic activities are on a standstill and economies are continuously declining. In such a situation, the local shopkeepers and retailers are adversely affected.

Their businesses will suffer huge setbacks and it will take years to recover these loses.

Amazon India has lend a helping hand and has come up as a saviour for these local shopkeepers and retailers to protect their business from total annihilation.

Amazon India launched ‘local shops on amazon’ program

Amazon India launched the ‘Local Shops on Amazon’ program for local shopkeepers and retailers on Sunday. Announcing the program, Gopal Pillai, vice president of vendor services at Amazon India, said that through ‘Local Shops on Amazon’ it is our endeavour to provide opportunity to every vendor in the country to reach customers in India and the world. This program empowers local shops and retailers so that they can take advantage of large customer base using existing resources and edits. For this, the company has prepared a special ‘delivery app’.

Pillai said that in the last few weeks we have faced an unprecedented challenge. Our entire focus is on delivering the required product to the customer. The company has invested Rs 10 crore for its expansion. The company has been through this program for the last six months with more than 5000 local shops and online retailers in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Surat, Indore, Lucknow, Saharanpur, Faridabad, Kota and Varanasi etc.

Geomart can pose a challenge to amazon

Mukesh Ambani’s Jio has made a big collaboration with Facebook-Jio. Mukesh Ambani, has announced Rs 43,574-crore Reliance Jio-Facebook deal. These two companies would promote the use of WhatsApp to supply goods from neighbourhood grocery stores to consumers and thereafter provide assistance in education and health sector. The company has launched a new e-commerce platform Geomart amid the risk of lockdown. Jio’s digital commerce platform Geomart and WhatsApp will enable close to 30 million grocery shoppers to conduct digital transactions with their neighbourhood customers.

Sources familiar with the case said that its trial is currently underway in three other cities including Mumbai. It is believed that Geomart’s direct competition will be with Flipkart, which has become part of Amazon and Walmart.

With the competition being so intense it’s time to see which company’s initiative could be more useful.

Coronavirus cases have reached 28,380 in India

The highest cases are in US. Today, 986k people are infected in US with 109k recoveries and 55,417 deaths.

In India, right now 28,380 people are infected and 6,363 people have recovered. Total people died has reached 886. In the last 24 hours more than 1600 new cases have tested positive.
