The producer of telecom equipment, Ericsson, announced the creation of an India 6G Research team at its Chennai R&D Centre, marking the beginning of its “India 6G” programme. The three R&D centres for Ericsson in India are located in Gurgaon, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

The business claimed in a statement that this “India 6G” team, which consists of senior research leaders and a group of accomplished experts in the fields of radio, networks, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing, has been tasked with creating the foundational solutions for the future of telecommunications.

The research team at Ericsson India will collaborate with its research teams in Sweden and the US to develop technology that will enable networks to deliver essential services, immersive communications, and ubiquitous Internet of Things (IoT) while maintaining the integrity of the information delivered.

The Ericsson Global Research teams and the Indian 6G research team will work together to provide innovative solutions. Channel modelling and hybrid beamforming, Low energy networks, cloud evolution and sustainable compute, trustworthy, explainable, and bias-free AI algorithms, autonomous agents for intent management functions, integrated sensing and communication functions for the man-machine continuum, and compute offload to edge-computing cloud are just a few of the projects on which the teams will be working, according to the company.

For radio, artificial intelligence, and cloud research, Ericsson is collaborating with leading Indian universities. The most recent agreement was a five-year agreement inked in September 2023 with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras’ (IIT Madras) Centre for Responsible AI (CeRAI).
