Modernisation has greatly impacted the life of humanity both in terms of negative and positive aspects. At one side where modernisation has made our life easier using various technology that makes human life more easy and comfortable, at the other side modernisation has made the life more prone to new diseases due to lack of physical efforts, unbalanced diet, junk & processed food as well as allopathic medicine system.

Nature has always been more kind towards the humans, its only the humans who had always been cruel to the nature depleting the natural resources, cutting down the trees for its own benefits and polluting the environment to its worst has put man kind into danger.

Ayurveda is one such gift of god which is the biggest discovery of the mankind and one of the most innovative contribution of Indians to the world.

Allopathic medicines in the name of giving the relief gives more problems to the over all health. Ayurveda but ofcourse has no side effects as its uses natural products, plant extracts and natural vegetation for the treatment.

This is the reason behind all western and European people getting their inclination towards Indian Ayurveda rather than taking allopathic medicines.

Today we are presenting Dr. Adil from Elite Ayurveda Services Pvt Ltd who has started his venture in 2015 providing ayurvedic and natural treatment to major diseases of modern lifestyle such as Hair fall, Dandruff, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Parkinson’s disease etc.

Dr. Adil is an ayurvedic doctor and with his vast experience is proud to say that Ayurveda has proven more effective and productive to cure diseases than allopathic medicine system.

Let us see what Dr. Adil has to say about his venture and what is his journey till now.

1. What is the Name of Your Venture? Any specific reason for this name?
Elite Ayurveda. It’s a private limited company . Formed in June 2015. The reason is simple. We wanted to stand out as the name Elite implies; a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society. And we are by God’s grace able to prove it.
2. Who is your target Audience/clients?
Health is our prime epitome. So anyone who is interested to be healthy mentally, physically and socially can avail our services. However, as a company, currently, we are focusing our energy in urban-educated-health conscious/cautious people aging 22 to 60.
3. Where is your venture based (city, state, country) & What are your geographical target areas?
Our venture is based in Bangalore, Karnataka. But has its existence in Thrissur and Cochin, Kerala as well. India first, and across almost 192 countries, crossing borders, which we understood that medical delivery system is limited to modern medicines. Given the fact that our treatments can be even be monitored remotely, we serve all over India and abroad. We have set logistics for the same. A team of online callers has been trained to cater to people over email, apps and phone.

4. What problems does your venture resolve? What are your products or services?

Lifestyle is changing and with changing lifestyles comes susceptibility to more and more diseases. India has the highest number of Diabetics in the World. Every single day, at the least someone gets diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The numbers are shocking. That is what we are here to change. We improve the quality of their life – using the power of Ayurveda.

5. Share the idea or story behind the venture. How did it came to an existence? What motivated you to start your own venture?

During my days in Ayurveda medical college, I used to think about why Ayurveda is not chosen as a medical stream by the majority of people. This thought always made me understand that the right awareness is missing among the mass about this potential medical system which was originated and practiced in India for the past 5000 odd years or more. With the help of social media and technology I started working with a group of Ayurvedic enterprising people in Kerala to learn how to do this properly so that it reached the right people.

Later once I felt the best place to start my full- fledged practice was in Bangalore, since this city has a cosmopolitan culture, and there was a demand for natural health and Ayurveda. Here at Bangalore I started a small clinic with a minimum investment and started to see patients who were all surprised by the results and the kind of recovery they received from Ayurvedic treatments. This continued till I became completely confident on the medical aspects of Ayurveda intervention.

In the meanwhile, I started speaking to people outside Ayurveda, who motivated and guided me in building a brand of my own. There were days when I had to sit with designing, content and marketing team for days together to conceptualize a model which can reach to the educated masses.

6. Who are your biggest competitors and how do you differentiate yourself from them?
As mentioned above, Ayurvedic curative health care is a soon-to-be necessity in all major metros in India and worldwide. Given our demography more players make the reach better. Even then, we have players like Patanjali, Dabur, Himalaya etc who are doing first-half of what we are. We are different from available players in terms of approach, result delivery, etc. Adding to this, we are the only Ayurveda practitioners, we provide TBT, Time Based Treatments, wherein we forecast the minimum and maximum time required for patients to get relieved from the ailment, and this is only available at Elite Ayurveda which also makes up our USP. We have graded all the five diseases under mild, moderate and severe and accordingly the treatment duration required. This is very new to Ayurveda practice culture.

7. How did you identify your co-founder? Tell us something about your co-founder/s

First to tell you, Me and my co-founder Dr. Soumya, an Ayurvedic Doctor by profession, were always on researching on how to give the best in terms of results at the affordable cost with Ayurveda, which is known to be a costly affair. We did lots of travelling to remote villages of Kerala and Karnataka to find the suitable herbs and others, and also trying to learn more and more from being with traditional Ayurveda Vaidyas. Later we started working on Diabetes treatment, way back in 2009 and started seeing tremendous outcomes. In the meanwhile we started getting patients who had complaints with hair and scalp issues, skin issues, movement problems etc.

This is when we came up with breakthrough treatments for all these medical conditions. We worked hard to make the right protocols so it becomes easy, affordable and worth. In 2015, we started our first venture Elite Ayurveda. We were always motivated with result outcomes and our patient’s satisfaction of getting back to their own track. It was a difficult leap from well-paying corporate hospital jobs to one’s startup, however so far so good.

8. How did you hired your first team members? What skills Do you want in your employees/team?
For the first one and a half years we both just worked and worked. We wanted the positive response and recognition for our brand Elite Ayurveda. Later we took in a few junior doctors, started training them, and now we have two well-trained duty Ayurveda doctors who assist us in delivering the results and hospitality.

Patient management
Treatment modalities
Counseling etc.

Our expectation on the newly recruited Doctors was to have a mindset to accept and learn quick. And in the many trained, these two did. We are also planning to recruit more doctors and train them, since the training protocol is ready.

9. What expansion plans are you looking for the next 2 years, next 5 years?
5 years is a long time and given how rapidly technology is changing, I believe a lot will happen to improve our services and help us create wider and deeper impact. However, as a company, we have a vision for the long term but concrete steps only for the next couple of years.

In the next 2 years, we will be present beyond India. We are planning to go long on Ayurveda literacy. Given how important knowing about Ayurvedic approach to our specialties, in these 2 years we believe more than 2 Lacs people will be our users and each day they will take concrete steps towards changing their future health.

10. Where do you want to see yourself in next 10 years?
I think I would want to move from just an entrepreneur to an advisor. Said that, working on positioning Elite Ayurveda as a complete healthcare destination in Ayurveda map in the next coming years. I am already working on project on health + education. This should be something unique and need for health conscious parents.

11. What are your goals over the next 1, 3, 6 and 12 months?
1 month – Need to get my Bangalore operations better
3 months – Start with Kerala & Andhra Pradesh operations
6 months – More than 50 B2B tie-ups
12 months – Bigger team, better operation, and deeper footprint.

12.Have you raised any funding? Or have any plans for the funding?
We did raise a pre-seed round with friends and family. We will soon look for funding.

13.What were the problems you faced during the starting days and how did you resolve them?
I believe most startups face the same problems.

The idea we started this is to make the best out of what we are experts at. However, we don’t want to lose this opportunity. So the process of validating our concept and idea was the problem to make our first patients understand that this works.

14.What was the most challenging part of your journey till now? How did you overcome those challenges?
Challenges are many, the only difficult part is to keep going. Till the time you aren’t giving up, challenges will come and go. Thankfully I had the support of friends and family. I try to get up even after being hit multiple times.

15.Are you married, single or in a relationship?
Am married and living happily.

16.What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?
I like long drives. Whenever I find the time, I try to pull of my car and take a short trip.

I try to sneak out to catch up with someone over coffee – discuss on multiple fronts or simply enjoy a cup of coffee alone. I have developed a new found interest in watching motivational videos and movies on Youtube, Netflix or Hotstar.

17.Whats your favorite food & holiday destination?
I love cooking. Biriyani is all time favourite. I keep trying out every new eateries open up in Bangalore. And at times travels out of city if someone refers me a good place to eat. For now, my favorite holiday destination is Coorg, Wayanad and Yercaud in South India. However, if time permits I would like to go International.

18.Whom do you consider your idol or biggest motivator?
Naming just one person won’t be honest. But yes, from my partner Dr. Soumya to Mr. Steve Jobs to Mr. Tata, there are many people who motivate me. I guess my friends and family’s belief in me motivates me most. But I seek motivation from many other sources like movies, meetings, other start-ups, etc.

19.What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?
I have been on both sides of the World and there is no major difference. There are people who are really working hard and passionately for the next promotion or for creating an impact in the organization they work for. And there are people who want to start something of their own, create something and they work hard towards it. We call them entrepreneurs.

I believe both clans do anything possible to make their dream come true.

20. If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
If only I could start my career again, I will only try to start earlier and do the same things. I am a firm believer of learn-by-doing. So I know I will make some mistakes, learn some from others but this time I would want to start early.

21.How has being an entrepreneur affected your family & Social life?
Social life – More recognition, more responsibility. But even in the busy schedules, I still catch up with my close friends. I generally lead in planning a road trip every month.
Family life – On all occasions like Eid, Ramzan, Onam and Christmas where we all have a get together.

I try to stay in touch with friends and family daily but work is priority now.

22.Anything, you would like to say to our readers or upcoming entrepreneurs?
I have only what our former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has once said in one of his speeches “Though becoming unique is a difficult challenge, it can be beaten by knowledge. Never stop fighting till you succeed.” I follow his words as an ultimate inspiration. “Stop not till you reach your goal’’.

23.Tell us something about your education & family background.
Since my childhood days, I have seen my mom, grandmas and grandpas making their own Ayurvedic kashayams and thailam at home. The aroma of these preparations always filled the house. I did my schooling in Thrissur, Kerala and Abu Dhabi, UAE. I finished my graduation in Ayurveda from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Karnataka.

Being the first Ayurveda doctor in the family, I got enough encouragement from my Dad, Mom, brothers and our only youngest sister Dr. Nawal who got graduated in Ayurveda. She handles the patient management at Elite Ayurveda.

24. What is your USP which makes it unique & different from other start-ups in similar domains.
For every organization, no matter what they are pursuing, the only USP is ‘US’ meaning the team, the way they think, the way they execute. I believe likewise. Our USP is our understanding of our customers, how we want to serve them, how we want to create a difference. Yes, we do have technology but that is again a product of our thinking and trying to create deepest impact towards a person’s healthy future.

25. What do you think is the biggest threat to the success of small businesses & Start-ups today?
Being biased. I have seen many small businesses and startups not open to outside ideas, not open to criticism. They somehow fail to see the wave of change. I believe it is very important to stay open to changes.

26. Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?
I have been successful in surviving till now. I believe in growing from surviving yourself to helping others survive then I am a success. Like I mentioned, eventually, I want to be a seed investor and teacher. This is just a small version of success. I am sure success keeps becoming grandeur as we move forward in its pursuit.
