Razr 2022: Here’s A Look At Motorola’s Upcoming New Foldable phone

Here’s A Look At Motorola’s Upcoming Razr 2022 Foldable Phone

Rather than an iterative upgrade, Motorola is launching another foldable phone. As the leaks and teases suggest, Samsung may lose its grip on the limelight to Apple this year if the leaks and teases are correct. Razr 2022 is Motorola’s clamshell foldable that will be announced on August 2 in China.

Teasers have already appeared on Weibo, and many leaks have detailed its innards. It seems that will bolster Motorola’s foldable phone ambitions by the third time might be the charm. The Motorola Razr 2022 is a smartphone that we know everything about so far.

Cameras & Battery

Additionally, Motorola Razr’s camera output has been a chink in its armor in addition to the weak chip. The Motorola foldable phone lineup has maintained a single rear camera formula. Despite its 48 megapixels, the Razr 5G camera could not deliver on the original $1,400 price tag due to its raw quality and limited lens options

The good news is that Motorola is also making positive progress in that regard. As far as the primary camera is concerned, the Razr 2022 will have a 50MP sensor. However, the 12.5MP photos will have more detail this time because of pixel-binned images. The primary camera will now be joined by an ultrawide camera that is expected to have a 13MP sensor.

In comparison to phones like the iPhone 13 and Galaxy S22, that’s enough pixels to take some impressive photos. According to Evan Blass’ leaks, there will also be a 32MP selfie camera.

Battery capacity won’t change. Motorola’s Razr 2022 will reportedly come with just a 2,800mAh battery to power two screens and a power-hungry flagship processor, which is not enough to support two screens. Hopefully, Motorola has incorporated battery optimizations to balance things out but keep your hopes low.

Design & Processor

Here's A Look At Motorola's Upcoming Razr 2022 Foldable Phone

Due to an elevated bottom chin, the first two Motorola Razr foldable phones were too closely bound to nostalgia. Motorola put a fingerprint sensor on the chin and used it cleverly to slide into a part of the flexible screen, but it still caused controversy. It won’t be necessary to have a chin in 2022.

The phone has already been unveiled on stage by a Lenovo executive, revealed to have a symmetrical bottom and top chin. A selfie camera is also not included at the top of the device. Despite Motorola adding a clean design makeover, the top and bottom edges are still slightly curved, retaining some of the classic Razr design.

Samsung’s Galaxy Galaxy Z Flip 3’s outer cover display, which is already more functional and noticeably more prominent than the Razr 2022’s, is also added a few millimeters. The foldable screen is 6.7 inches with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the cover display is 3 inches.

The dual-lens rear camera setup is another noteworthy change, but no word has been released regarding other color options. The Moto Razr 2022 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, making it the first foldable phone to feature this technology. In the Galaxy Z Flip 4, slated to launch on August 10, the same chip will reportedly be in the device.

Despite the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1’s slightly lower performance, it is a huge leap forward for Motorola. Moto Razr foldable phones have relied on mid-range chips such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, so the Motorola Razr 2022 is a significant upgrade. Despite the increased raw performance, there is much more to consider. A flagship-grade chip also enables new capabilities for the camera and keeps it at the top of the priority list for future software updates.

Price & Availability

Motorola is expected to be aggressive this time around when it comes to pricing. As reported by CompareDial, the Motorola Razr 2022 is expected to be priced at 1,149 euros, a significant reduction from its predecessor’s 1,399 euros. Based on current euro-to-dollar conversion rates, the Razr 2022 might launch for $1,150.

A generation-over-generation price cut aligns this phone with Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Flip series. Motorola has shared only plans for the Razr 2022’s release in China. This model will likely be available in more markets in the coming weeks, including the US, based on the availability pattern of previous Motorola-branded foldable phones.
