iRobot Joins Hands With Google To Advance Smart Home Technology

So, it seems your vacuum is about to become smarter, thanks to iRobot and Google. iRobot has recently unveiled their new Roomba, the i7+ in the US, in participation with Google. The company has joined hands with Google to integrate their smart robotics and mapping capabilities for more effective cleaning.
iRobot’s new Roomba i7+ creates maps of homes with the help of its low-resolution camera and also by measuring the distance covered by its wheels. This allows users to tell Roomba to clean a particular room by giving voice commands.
According to iRobot CEO Colin Angle, the partnership between iRobot and Google lays down the foundation for future smart devices. He said, “This idea is that when you say, ‘OK Google, turn the lights on in the kitchen,’ you need to know what lights are in the kitchen. And if I say, ‘OK future iRobot robot with an arm, go get me a beer,’ it needs to know where the kitchen and the refrigerator are.”
He further added, “If we can help the Google ecosystem to have a better understanding of the home — with full permission of the users, and the full ability to back out — then it might be that owning a Roomba makes your smart home smarter, or even more thoughtful.”
