A sneak preview of the exercise with Grant Thornton to pick candidates for the fifth edition of the BW Young Entrepreneur Awards 2019.
The summit will be followed by Young Entrepreneur Awards, an annual event conceptualized by BW Businessworld to recognize India’s Hottest Young Entrepreneurs 2019, where start-ups who transformed the Indian ecosystem will be identified, acknowledged, and celebrated.
BW along with Grant Thornton and a high power jury will recognise the winners of the burgeoning start-up ecosystem in two categories: 0-3 years and 3-7 years.
The jury comprising the finest minds across diverse sectors, who decided the winners, are as follows: Akhil Gupta, Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises & Chairman, Bharti Infratel Ltd; Rajeev Chitrabhanu, Founder, Magnetic Partners, Ex CEO & MD, JM Financial Services; Aditya Gupta, Managing Partner, GEMs; Mahendra Swarup, Founder, Venture Gurukool; Sheila Vasan Singla, Founder & Principal Associate, Chrysalis; Tej Kapoor, Managing Director And Head, Fosun RZ Capital India; Dheeraj Jain, Managing Partner, Redcliffe Capital; Shailesh Ghorpade, Managing Partner & CIO, Exfinity Venture Partners LLP, Rohit Bhayana, Co-Founder And Managing Partner, Lumis Partners; Alishaan Naqvee, Partner, LexCounsel; Karan Mohla, Partner & Executive Director, Chiratae Ventures.
The parameters and criteria for judging that jury followed were the organizational profile, financial performance, differentiating factor, traction built and social impact. The jury encouraged the candidates to explain their business model.
“The criteria for selecting the winner will be on the basis of what they are trying to do, how different they are, their founding team and the problems they are solving with their venture”, said Akhil Gupta.
Rajeev Chitrabhanu suggested, “Sustainability of the organisation along with its revenue model must also be taken in account”.
125 nominations were received for Young Entrepreneur Awards 2019, out of which 80 entries were selected as eligible by Grant Thornton. Further, out of list of 80, 36 entries were shortlisted by each Jury Member. BW Edit team collated the Jury Score to finalize the 49 shortlisted which were reviewed via physical presentation, Skype presentation or their Nomination form.
The jury also expressed their views on the shortlisted candidates. “It was very well curated and BW did a good job in shortlisting the entrepreneurial spirit”, said Tej Kapoor.
Karan Mola said, “The social aspect was interesting, some of the candidates had really interesting ideas. Over all, it was a wide range of sectors and big diversities of energetic candidates”.
“Extremely impressed to see the initiatives by these young people who are using technology to solve the problems of the society”, said Sheila Vasan Singla.
