Zoho, a unicorn SaaS firm with headquarters in Chennai, experienced year-over-year (Y-o-Y) growth of 37% in the calendar year 2022, according to Sridhar Vembu, the company’s founder and CEO.

On its platform for communication and teamwork, Zoho Cliq, Zoho is placing a significant wager. Cliq Rooms, a smart conference room solution, was introduced by the firm on Monday, and new improvements to Zoho Cliq were also unveiled to expand its capabilities.

Vembu stated that even if the global economy is expected to slow down, India’s rising market gives hope. India is now Zoho’s third-largest market after the US and the EU.Within the next two to four years, he predicts that India will overtake the United States as the second-largest market, overtaking it to become the company’s biggest market by the end of the decade.

Due to the wide range of products and services it offers, such as Zoho One, Zoho CX Suite, Zoho People, Zoho Books, and Zoho Workplaces, Zoho has seen growth in India.

Vembu continued by pointing out how difficult it is to create business estimates given the present Middle Eastern developments, the war in the Ukraine, and other global uncertainties.

The business is developing capabilities on its Saas platforms for workplaces to function in a decentralised style after the work from home trend fades, according to Vembu, who is known for moving software and product development away from metropolitan regions and relocating it to rural India.

Vembu said that demographics also favour Zoho, noting that despite Japan having a larger GDP, Mexico is a larger market for the company. In 2022, India had 23 million infants, down 20% from the high in 2001, according to birth data, he noted.

The COVID-19 pandemic fast-tracked digital transformation across industries. As businesses shifted operations online, the demand for cloud-based solutions skyrocketed. Zoho, with its diverse product suite, was ideally positioned to cater to this demand.

Zoho made significant efforts to localize their products to suit the needs of Indian businesses. By offering local payment options, vernacular language support, and features tailored to Indian markets, Zoho carved a niche for itself.

Zoho’s competitive pricing, coupled with a flexible pay-as-you-go model, attracted many SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) who might find other international software solutions cost-prohibitive.

The company increased its marketing spend, focusing on digital campaigns, webinars, and workshops. This allowed Zoho to tap into segments of the market previously untouched.

The Indian government’s push towards digitization and the ‘Digital India’ campaign created a conducive environment for businesses to adopt digital tools. Zoho, being a local player, benefited from this macro trend.
