No Need to Clear JEE to get into IIT for Bachelor’s Degree Course

India’s top technical institute, IIT Madras has started B.Sc courses in programming and data science, this is the world’s first B.Sc program for programming and data science.

• The course will be on online mode and will have tests and quizzes on offline mode, the test centers are what where the exams of JEE holds, and are widely spread throughout the country. 
• The course does not also have an age limit which allows everyone who is interested with programming and want to learn from the professors of the biggest tech university of the country possible.
• Anyone who has completed 12th class or equivalent, and has studied English and Mathematics in 10th is eligible for the program.

The B.Sc course is divided into 3 levels, 

Foundation Level

The qualification of this level is pretty simple, you have to attend video lectures for 4 weeks of time and have to submit certain assignments, after this you will have to give an offline exam, and score at least 50% of marks, the exam will be only based on what you have learned in the 4 weeks of video lectures.

One more benefit, what you get from this program is that you can leave the program at any level and will still get the certificate till that level from IIT Madras.

The foundation level consists of Mathematics, English and Python Programming.

So, after you have completed with the foundation level course you may either leave the course or go ahead with the next level which is the Diploma level.

Diploma Level

The diploma level is of two types, which are Diploma course in Data Sciences, and Diploma course in programming. You must have completed the foundation level courses to go ahead with this.

Diploma in Programming

Diploma in Data Science

After you have completed with any one of the diplomas programming or machine learning, you can leave the program and have the certificate of the same and the foundation level, or if you have done both of the diplomas, you can leave with your due certificates, or you can move ahead with the last level of the program which is the degree level. The fees of both Diploma in programming and Diploma in Data Science all together is ₹1,10,000.

Degree Level

The degree level is the final level of this program and requires one to complete all the 8 foundation level courses and all 12 Diploma level courses, including the programming and Data Science courses.

This level contains different types of courses, like AI, Operating Systems, Computer architecture, Software testing, Software engineering and many more.

Once you have completed with this final level of the program, you will be provided with a B.Sc degree in programming and data science from the institute. The total effective fees of the program is ₹2,42,000.

One of the program coordinator, Professor Andrew Thangaraj, while explaining about the course said that while constructing the program, they wanted to make sure that anyone who has completed their 12th standard and has studied English and Mathematics in class 10th must be able to come in, slowly learn what is there in the program, and slowly build up everything that they need to get out with a successful degree and become a successful programmer and data scientist.

Professor Thangaraj highlighted that students are not required to clear tough a tough examination like the Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) to get themselves enrolled into IITs, he said “We want to break that barrier and show what quality education at IIT is.”
