Anita Dongre is the founder of the House of Anita Dongre which was founded in the year 1995. The House of Anita Dongre is the entrepreneur model of Anita. It is composed of four separate brands which include a contemporary line which is Global Desi, a jewelry line which is Pinkcity, a western wear brand which is AND, and the last a sustainability luxury brand which is Grassroot. As successful as we see her today, it was not thrown at her overnight. She built it from scratch and brought it till here.
For starters, she started her journey in Manhattan. It was called Grassroot and it was her first international store in the year 2007. One of her dresses was worn by the Duchess of Cambridge during her royal tour to India. When people got to know about this, the demand for her designer attire exploded in the United States of America and her website got huge. During her talk with The New York Times, she quoted, ‘The handcrafted traditions of India really need a global platform, and New York is the best place to start.’ To her hard work and determination, Anita Dongre became the 7th most searched designer on the Google Search Engine.
Her aspirations kept her powered all through her journey right from when she started studying fashion designing at the SNDT Women’s University which was based in Mumbai which is also her hometown. After completing her education, she did not want to go into the regular circle of employment. She had other plans in mind and other ambitions regarding which she started working right then and her journey towards her entrepreneurship began and since then she has not looked back.
She then designer attires and also started supplying designs to some of the most renowned and leading boutiques of the country for around 12 years before she finally decided to take the higher road. She knew she had skills and talents, she knew she was creative, all she had to realize was that she could do it on her own. And, well since the day she started her own label, the heights which she has reached are admirable and amazing. All it took from her end was the courage to realize that she did not need to waste what she had to let others have profited from her instead what she should have got.
To her belief in herself and her fearless behavior towards failing or taking the risk, she has now a company which has over 1000 sale points in more than around 100 cities. In fact, Anita has also acknowledged her duties towards the environment and her corporate social responsibility and all the products she produces are cruelty-free and with that, she was recognized at PETA Approved Vegan Fashion Awards in 2013 as well. Since then she was also recognized as one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. We could not agree more with that!
