Ms. Shreya Kochhar has co-founded Contrive Techstar with her father and mentor Mr. Atul Kochhar. He is a globally renowned businessman with over 30 years of experience in his pocket. 1.What is the Name of Your Venture? Any specific reason for this name?
Our Company is named Contrive Techstar Pvt. Ltd. Our belief is to launch product solutions with ace technologies. Thus, we chose Contrive which means to invent and/or make a device or other object in a clever and possibly unusual way and Techstar for ace technologies.
2.Who is your target Audience/clients?
Organisations in various industries like advertising, cyber security, IT, pharmaceutical and agriculture who wish to achieve greater levels of efficiency.
3.Where is your venture based (city, state, country) & What are your geographical target areas?
Our head office is in New Delhi, India. We are first targeting the metropolitan cities in India along with few other countries in Asia and Middle East.
4.What problems does your venture resolve? What are your products or services?
Our products are developed with latest technologies helping businesses in various industries achieve greater levels of efficiency. We are offering a Media Mirror and Table top mirror as an offline advertising tool. It is suitable for retail spaces, eating joints, jewelry stores, washrooms, airports and every space where advertising is possible.
We are currently offering two types of Smart Mirror – Table Top Mirror and Media Mirror
The objective of marketing & advertising is create awareness , build brand and share information about a product or services across its target market!
My product gives a new face to marketing and advertising, like never before! This breaks the stereotypical ways of advertising and brings to you the latest adverting and marketing tool which has high engagement and retention rate. Mirror is something which every person irrespective of their gender uses and is accustomed to look into. My product is a smart mirror : Media Mirror : detects the presence of a person and plays the advertisement and Table Top Mirror : keeps playing the advertisement until it detects a person and converts itself to a regular mirror, therefore we have way both ways:

5.Share the idea or story behind the venture. How did it came to an existence? What motivated you to start your own venture?
My only motivation is to be able to offer to the market product solutions which are technology driven and have never been seen before.
6.Who are your biggest competitors and how do you differentiate yourself from them?
We do not have any direct competitors for our products. Our products differentiates themselves on the ground of innovation, creativity and technological advancements.
7.How did you identify your co-founder? Tell us some thing about your co-founder/s
My father, Mr. Atul Kochhar, co-founded Contrive Techstar with me. He comes with an industry experience of over 30 years. His expertise in identifying the right opportunity at the right time and to make the most out of it is the key to his successful career.
8.How did you hired your first team members? What skills Do you want in your employees/team?
We were always sure that we wanted to build the perfect dream team. After months of shortlisting applications and interviewing candidates, we got our first team. Everyone is motivated and open to challenging and quality work. The vision and opinion of all the members are as important to the company decisions as mine is.
9.What expansion plans are you looking for the next 2 years, next 5 years?
We wish to reach out to businesses across all major industries. We have started with IT, Cyber security, Medical and Agriculture and would like to expand it further. In the next two years, we would like to penetrate in these industries PAN India. In 5 years, we want to be the brand people associate innovation with. That is, to be well established in the business of launching ace B2B products.
10.Where do you want to see yourself in next 10 years?
Me and my company is the same. Like I mentioned before, we would like to be the brand people associate innovative technologies with.
11.What are your goals over the next 1, 3, 6 and 12 months?
Over the period of next one year, we want to increase our presence in digitally. We want to build a strong client base and increase revenue to achieve our business goals.
12.Have you raised any funding? Or have any plans for the funding?
13.What were the problems you faced during the starting days and how did you resolve them?
Our technical team failed several times before presenting the final finished product. That was one major problem we faced.
14.What was the most challenging part of your journey till now? How did you overcome those challenges?
Since we are a technology based company, several times we failed in running the tests successfully. Being patient was one of the most challenging part in my journey. As a leader in the company, there is a constant pressure which is always bearing upon you. Handling that pressure is a big challenge.

16.What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?
I am passionate about cooking, travel, socialising and most importantly fashion. In my non work-time, I try to catch up with myself by doing things I love. For me, having a “Me time” is extremely important.
17.Whats your favourite food & holiday destination?
Italian! And Milan is my favourite destination. It is my second home.
18.Whom do you consider your idol or biggest motivator?
My father and co-founder is my biggest challenger and my mother is my biggest motivator. You see they challenge me and then motivate me to outperform myself.
19.What do you feel is the major difference between entrepreneurs and those who work for someone else?
An entrepreneur works to actually solve a problem in the market. A businessman works to earn profits. An employee works for recognition, rewards and going up the corporate ladder. If employees are not given a chance to share their vision, they end up lacking the passion.
20.If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?
I take business decisions strategically. There is nothing I would want to do differently. The only thing I wish I started earlier was Digital Marketing.
21.How has being an entrepreneur affected your family & Social life?
Of course! CTPL is now my family and requires attention first. Everything else is secondary.

Believe in yourself, if your idea is sustainable then everything will fall in place.
23.Tell us something about your education & family background.
I completed my graduation in Bcom(H) from Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi. Post that I pursued my Masters in Fashion Management from Domus Academy, Milan. My father is the 3rd generation in his pharmaceutical based family business which started in 1900. We started CTPL to offer ace technologies in a unique manner to the Indian market.
24.What is your USP which makes it unique & different from other start-ups in similar domains.
Our USP is that we have few technologies which are patented and using those technologies we are offering product solutions with enormous features (which aren’t included in our Competitors products). Thus, most of the times, we do have the first mover advantage in the industry.
25. What do you think is the biggest threat to the success of small businesses & Start-ups today?
Human resources are extremely crucial to the success of small businesses. If the team isn’t formed with good competent staff, then they can be the biggest threat to the success.
26. Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?
Like I said earlier, success will be when my company and I are the brand associated with innovation and technological advancements.
