An important source of industrial statistics for the registered organised manufacturing sector of the economy is the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), which includes all factories across the nation that are registered under the Factories Act. It is anticipated that the survey findings for 2020–21 will be made public soon.Over 50% of the GDP is made up of the services sector.  The GDP statistics broadly includes information on commerce, lodging, transportation, communication, finance, real estate, public administration, and defence.

It has been steadily gaining prominence in economies worldwide, with a significant share of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employment being attributed to this sector.

According to the World Bank, services account for over 60% of global GDP, highlighting its central role in modern economies.

In the context of India, the service sector has been a key driver of economic growth. As per data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the services sector contributed over 54% to India’s GDP in the fiscal year 2020-2021, a significant increase from previous years.

Despite the undeniable importance of the service sector, reliable and up-to-date data on its various facets is often lacking.
