Recently a suggestion has been highlighted by some media outlets of India that after the deadly clashes erupted at the India-China border the nation should play the Tibet-card. This perception should be considered as a meaningless and misguided viewpoint. According to some people when it comes to the ongoing hustle between the two neighboring countries India and China, the Tibet issue should be seen as a trump card and must be used as leverage but such thoughts are irrational.

Some experts say that the Tibet-card holds no practicality in itself rather it must be termed as a unicorn concept which only exists in imaginations.

Some issues fall under a country’s internal affair and that must remain untouched. Tibet’s issue falls under China’s internal affairs and India’s thought to use it as a trump card would directly mean involving in China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

the Tibet issue is being exploited by some anti-China forces to fuel the political provocations not favoring the ‘One China’ policy. The stability of Tibet’s society is directly proportional to its economic growth and hence the faster it’s economic growth would be the more its society will become stable. The Indi-Chini trade and economic relations are provided development directly through Tibet’s economic growth and hence touching that subject would not be a clever move by India.

Official statistics of Tibet

Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region’s economic growth has been maintained at a relatively speedy pace in the late years which has laid a sound foundation for a secured social environment in the particular area.

  • Tibet’s GDP has grown over the years, in the year 2019 it grew to 8.1% year-on-year and reached 169.78 billion yuan or 24.15 billion dollars in the year 2019
  • the region’s per capita disposal capita is12.8% to nineteen thousand five hundred and one yuan
  • in 2019, the Tibet region possessed foreign trade relations with seventy-one regions and countries
  • Tibet’s trade with the country Nepal flew to 26.7% to 3.17 billion yuan

How is the economy affected?

The current climatic and geographical issues have pushed most of the Tibet region economically in a poor condition. The Indian states bordering the Tibet region may create a closer economic belt with Tibet in India can encourage the economic liveliness in these areas. The economic vitality can be cheered by improving infrastructure, an increase in governmental support, and encouragement in investments. In the end, it is hoped that some more efforts will be taken by the Government of India for the development of the economies of the Indian states located at the border of Tibet region in China. If these possibilities take a turn towards reality then great improvement in the economies will be witnessed on both the sides of Indi-Chini border. The border region can have ensured peace and stability by trade exchanges and local economic prosperity which will further benefit the bilateral relations as well as the nations accordingly.

The clashes have led to an emotional breakdown in the nation due to the suffered loss of lives and none of the national decisions should be taken which are high on emotions rather practicality should be chosen to deal with it. The thought of playing the so-called Tibet card would show the consequences of backfire….
