Modi v. Who? Lok Sabha Elections 2024

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, who will Modi face? C-Voter conducted a study to find solutions to this million-dollar question, however the results may leave you perplexed. The “pan-India” study comes in the wake of the Congress leader’s inability to obtain a respite from the Gujarat High Court in his indictment in the matter of criminal disqualification, which subsequently led to his disqualification as a Lok Sabha Member.

Gandhi filed a petition with the Supreme Court for relief in the matter involving his infamous “Modi surname” statement, claiming that the criminal defamation prosecution against him is a politically driven attempt to harass him. Gandhi was convicted to two years in prison in the case, making him ineligible to run for office before 2032.

In accordance with Section 8(3) in the Representation of the People Act, someone who has been convicted of a crime and given a two-year prison sentence is disqualified from running for office for the duration of their sentence plus an extra six years.

The Congress has found itself in a difficult situation because it may not be able to present Gandhi to serve as the prime ministerial face for the opposition coalition it is attempting to form. It has been believed that regional heavyweights who have been unkind to the concept of the grand old party as “big brother” so far may relegate the Congress into the shadows.

Even worse, it could have to come to terms with the possibility that Rahul Gandhi won’t be elected prime minister of India anytime soon. This is happening at a time when the opposition is formulating a plan to battle the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party together.

But if the poll results are to be accepted, all may not be lost. In the study, respondents were asked who they would want to see become the leader of the opposition if Rahul Gandhi is unable to secure a stay of execution for his conviction. The opposition should have more questions than answers after hearing the replies.

Elections This Year: Has The BJP Won 2024 In 2022?

For instance, Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has led the opposition coalition. The leader of the Trinamool Congress, one of the BJP’s strongest foes, has demonstrated time and time again that the party is not unbeatable and has argued for a bigger voice for regional parties within seat-sharing.

However, despite Mamata’s pan-India appeal, the poll indicated that just 10% of those who responded thought she may run for prime minister if Rahul Gandhi could not be allowed run.

Considering the absence of Rahul Gandhi as a contender, Arvind Kejriwal, whose Aam Aadmi Party is quickly emerging as the largest Opposition voice after Congress nationwide, rates a notch above Mamata, with 14% of respondents favoring him as a future PM face.

Kejriwal’s Bihar counterpart as well as Janata Dal (United) president is also included, with 14% of respondents perceiving him as being the prime ministerial face. This, despite Nitish presenting himself as the probable frontrunner for the highest job and effectively spearheading attempts to form an anti-BJP coalition with the Congress.

The relief for the Congress emerges in the shape of Rahul Gandhi’s sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has become known as the frontrunner for the Opposition’s PM candidate. In accordance to the CVoter poll, an incredible 33% of respondents want the Opposition to promote Priyanka to be the PM face as opposed to Mamata, Kejriwal, or Nitish.

Amongst all these discussions the opposition parties displayed unity dismissing these questions about the face and focused on coming up with a smart comprehensive solution to clamp down on BJP!

It's 'Modi vs INDIA': Battle lines drawn for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls

Modi v. INDIA for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) will face off in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the alliance of 26 Opposition parties said on Tuesday following a two-day conference in Bengaluru.

According to sources within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as well as Congress, Mamata Banerjee along with Rahul Gandhi were the ones to propose the alliance’s new clever moniker. Another politician interviewed with regard to the formulation of the name credited “teamwork” for it. The struggle in 2024, according to Rahul, was to uphold the concept of India. He claimed that India is in a battle with Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The opposition parties have decided to get together for a meeting again in Mumbai soon. A secretariat and an 11-person committee were also established to study the alliance’s numerous facets, including debating a shared minimum program, holding joint public gatherings, as well as seat-sharing within states.

In the words of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress’ goal is to defend India’s Constitution, democracy, secularism, as well as social justice rather than to seize power for itself or take over the prime minister’s (PM) position. He said that the parties will put behind their differences to highlight the predicament of the general population.

303 seats were not achieved by the BJP alone. It gained power through the support of its allies before tossing them aside. According to Kharge, the BJP president and its officials are currently hopping from state to state to make amends with their former friends.

Mamata Banerjee, while discussing at the closed-door press conference that Kharge chaired on the name of the alliance, said: “BJP, can you challenge INDIA? We love our motherland, we are the patriotic people of the country, we are for farmers, Dalits, we are for the country, for the world…INDIA will win, our country will win and BJP will lose.” She further commented that the meeting had been extremely constructive and fruitful.

Further, while addressing the press conference, Mamata was observed calling Rahul Gandhi, “Our favorite.” This is not all, a TMC source mentioned that warmth between Mamata and Gandhi was evident during the meeting in Bengaluru. This shows a positive sign that the parties are mending fences in the wake of a common enemy. According to Rahul Gandhi, the conflict is not between the BJP and the opposition parties; rather, it is a battle for the concept of India, which is under attack.

That is why this name was chosen. The fight is between NDA and INDIA, Between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and INDIA, between their (the BJP’s) ideology and INDIA. You know what happens when someone stands against India, who wins.

– Rahul Gandhi, former Congress chief.

In this regard, TMC’s Derek O’Brien said in a tweet that they were not just searching for a mere name. All of them had been looking for a big idea. Further, he proudly claimed that with INDIA they had achieved that. Exclaiming that it is INDIA vs. NDA this time.

During the press conference, Rahul, Kharge, Mamata, Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, as well as Uddhav Thackeray spoke. Sonia Gandhi also stated during the meeting that there was work to be performed and that they all had to accomplish it together. Sources claim that Kharge wanted Sonia’s participation in Bengaluru because she is admired by political figures of all parties and because it will help convince doubters inside the Congress. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, was reportedly not too fond of I.N.D.I.A. since it contains the initials NDA. He needed to be persuaded.

The opposition gathering took place simultaneously with the NDA meeting in Delhi, wherein the BJP brought together 38 allies in a demonstration of force. With regard to this meeting of Delhi, Kharge said that BJP is running scared. He said, “Earlier, they (the BJP) never cared. They never spoke. Tukde tukde ho gaya tha (the NDA was in pieces). Now PM is trying to put them together. It shows he is afraid of the Opposition.” When he was asked about the number of parties attending the meeting, he said he had no idea who they were. He further commented that if they all are registered parties indeed, he had never heard that there were so many parties in the country.

After the meeting, Kharge spoke to the media and declared that the BJP wanted to undermine democracy and the Constitution by utilizing independent agencies like the CBI, ED, and Vigilance (department) against the leaders and supporters of the opposition parties. There is a serious problem here. To remedy the problem, they have united. The question in front of them is how to rescue the nation and its citizens.

The 26 parties unanimously adopted a resolution outlining their motivations for joining forces, the Manipur situation, the siege on the nation’s federal structure, violence and discrimination towards minorities, the requirement for a caste census, as well as the state of the economy.

What do you think- Will India really support I.N.D.I.A.?
