How Did Digitization Play a Crucial Role in the Growth of Indian Agriculture Sector?

Digitization has engulfed every sector and needless to mention, India is one of the most advanced countries that have adopted digitization on a big scale. It is a big that India is witnessing in the agricultural sector. This sector is booming and it is witnessing a great revolution in recent years. The government is actively pushing digitization in various sectors including the agricultural sector. It is the reason; it would be the right approach to come up with the best things that can perfectly suitably meet your needs.

Digitization and its Role in the Agricultural Sector

The agricultural sector posing a significant share in the Indian economy and this is why the Government of India is actively pushing the digitization to get adopted by the maximum number of people involved in this sector. There are several things digitization has been contributed to the agricultural sector and this is why it is the most important talking point for the entire country.

How Digitization Is Getting Involved in the Agriculture?

Here is the list of how digitization has been supporting the agricultural sector.

  • The government established the Digital Agriculture Mission 2021-2025 in September 2021. Five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed as part of this expedition, all focused on furthering digital agriculture projects in the country.
  • Several pilot initiatives were announced with firms such as Cisco, ITC, Jio Platforms, and Ninjacart in collaboration with government branches such as the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) and the National e-Markets Limited (NeML). The mission’s major goal is to assist agricultural modernization through the use of diverse technologies such as Blockchain and AI.
  • The Government of India’s public policy think tank, NITI Aayog, has worked with IBM to build an AI-powered crop production projection model. This model is projected to increase crop yields, monitor soil quality, and give early identification and warning of crop disease outbreaks.
  • Cisco created an Agricultural Digital Infrastructure (ADI) to improve the quality of farming and agricultural information. The Department of Agriculture used this infrastructure to collect and analyze data as part of the National Agri Stack.
  • In February 2020, Jio Agri (Jio Krishi) launched a new platform. To make farming easier, this technology digitalized the agricultural ecosystem throughout the value chain. It uses a variety of data sources and AI algorithms to interpret the data. The platform’s ultimate purpose is to provide farmers with precise and focused recommendations to maximize their productivity.
  • The Government of India and Microsoft are collaborating to help small farmers in India through a pilot program called the Unified Farmer Services Interface. The ultimate goal is to boost farmer incomes through effective price management and production monitoring using AI-enabled sensors.
  • According to a journal published in Betway, six institutes are working together to implement the Indian government’s Sensor-based Smart Agriculture (SENSAGRI) program, which focuses on the development of drones equipped with hyper-spectral remote sensing (HRS) sensors to monitor crop and soil health. The information gathered by these drones will be delivered directly to farmers.
