The beverage Frooti, which boasts several “firsts,” is the first to revolutionize the Indian beverage industry via innovation. Frooti, the first brand to be sold in Tetra Pak in India, is credited with popularising the phrase “on-the-go.” The TCA Tetra Pak and the PET bottle were both introduced initially by this business. With these creative packaging modifications, Parle Agro retained the well-known mango drink in the Indian market and made it accessible to consumers nationwide.

Building upon this success, Nadia Chauhan recognized the need to revamp Parle Agro’s flagship brand, Frooti, to cater to consumers’ evolving tastes. She led a rebranding campaign that transformed Frooti’s image, making it more vibrant and appealing to the youth. This strategic move paid off, as Frooti witnessed a resurgence in popularity and became one of India’s most loved fruit-based beverages.

Despite having a variety of well-liked goods now, Frooti remains the company’s flagship, accounting for more than 48% of all sales. By 2030, they want Parle Agro to be worth Rs 20,000 crore. Nadia and Schauna Chauhan, two outstanding sisters who have distinguished themselves as trailblazers, are the driving force behind this transformation in the Indian beverage business. They elevated Parle Agro with their strategic vision and complementary abilities. This accounts for how a visionary 17-year-old woman disrupted the Indian beverage industry.

Nadia Chauhan is also committed to sustainability and social responsibility. She has implemented several initiatives to reduce Parle Agro’s carbon footprint and support local communities. By adopting eco-friendly practices and promoting responsible consumption, she aims to impact the environment and society positively.

For now, Nadia holds the position of Chief Marketing Officer and Joint Managing Director at Parle Agro, which is one of India’s leading FMCG businesses.

This is the narrative. The inspiration behind Frooti was Nadia Chauhan.

Nadia Chauhan studied commerce at H. R. College after being born in California and raised in Mumbai. Nadia was meant to carry on her family’s history as the daughter of Prakash Chauhan, Chair of Parle Agro. She didn’t, however, have a lucky birth. She was exposed to the organization’s activities early and, unavoidably, accepted a formal career with Parle Agro in 2003 at 17.

Nadia was interested in business from a young age and was born into a family of entrepreneurs, the Chauhans. She loved visiting the firm campus and spent a lot of time there when she was in school. Her father finally encouraged her to pursue the disciplines she had expressed interest in.

The Parle Group was formed in 1929 by Nadia’s great-grandfather Mohanlal Chauhan, and by 1959 the business had started producing drinks. You won’t believe it, but the company included Thums Up, Limca, Gold Spot, Citra, and Maaza before passing to Ramesh, one of Jayantilal’s two sons, and Prakash, the father of Nadia. Sharad Chauhan, a cousin brother of the brothers, is the head of the Parle Products biscuit empire, which is well known for Parle-G.

Nadia Chauhan saw that Parle Agro significantly depended on just one product, Frooti, which accounted for 95% of its sales when she started working there in 2003 at 17. Nadia decided to change the direction of the business after realizing the necessity for diversification. Her first action was to state a vision that gave the entire organization direction. As a result, the team was free to work together towards a shared objective, and the company’s revenues rose from Rs 300 crore to an astounding Rs 8,000 crore today. Frooti’s market share fell to 48%, while the company’s other goods, including bottled water (Bailey), are now worth $1 billion. Over the previous years, Parle Agro’s revenue more than doubled to Rs 5,000 crore.

Other frooti goods joined the heritage after then. Frooti Fizz has been expanding quickly, with brand spokeswoman Alia Bhatt gracing billboards with purple bottles. It recorded revenues of Rs 1,604 crore for the company. It has reported its financial results for the fiscal year ending in March 2017 and is planning to significantly increase its manufacturing capacity for the upcoming year.

We all know Nadia’s brainchild, Appy Fizz, was a smashing success. The apple juice category was not offered in the Indian market before Appy Fizz, at least not in a packaged form. This technological and manufacturing advancement was groundbreaking, but it took time to gain recognition. Nadia’s choice to develop Appy Fizz in 2005 was a game-changer due to her profound grasp of the industry. This unique and revitalizing apple-flavoured fizzy beverage connected with customers and quickly gained popularity. With the success of Appy Fizz, Parle Agro gained more impetus, extending its reach and solidifying its position as a significant player in the Indian beverage market.

Since its debut, Appy Fizz has had growth of 70% and a 36% CAGR. The FMCG major increased its revenue from Rs 250 crore to Rs 5,000 crore in just under 15 years.

You may have noticed various goods come and go from the Indian FMCG sector. Frooti doesn’t have reached the maturation stage. However, how did Nadia Chauhan continue to make frooti relevant after all these years?

Nadia continued conducting market research, which showed that Frooti was becoming seen as a traditionalist brand and losing its relevance in a cutthroat industry. She took a calculated risk in 2005 when she chose to switch the recognizable green packaging of Frooti to yellow to increase awareness and shed the label of being “kid-centric.”

She didn’t stop there, though. She fully revamped the brand’s identity in 2015, starting with its packaging, look, advertising, and product formulation. This successful strategy earned Frooti a significant jump in the stock market.

The Chauhan sisters have an excellent working relationship, which accounts for Parle Agro’s success. The company’s production, compliance, quality, financial, and technical operations are led by Schauna, the oldest. The youngest, Nadia, is in charge of strategy, sales and marketing, as well as research and development. They have been able to take Parle Agro to new heights by dividing up the work according to their areas of strength. Together, they make up a dynamic team that has upended the market and made Parle Agro a potent competitor.

Some question the current quo, bust through glass ceilings and forge their routes in the male-dominated financial world. One such exceptional lady is Nadia Chauhan, the vivacious manager and joint managing director of Parle Agro. As a result of Chauhan’s unwavering persistence, creative thinking, and dedication to social concerns, her family’s business has seen a complete transformation, and she has elevated women in the Indian beverage sector by becoming an industry star.

Nadia Chauhan’s remarkable journey as a business leader has been defined by her relentless pursuit of excellence, innovative thinking, and the ability to anticipate consumer trends. As the driving force behind the success of Parle Agro’s iconic brands, Frooti and Appy Fizz, she has revolutionized the beverage industry in India and beyond.
