Bridgestone Collaborates with Tata Power for EV Charger Installation 2023

In an ambitious move, bridging the gap between clean energy and transportation, tire manufacturing giant Bridgestone has joined forces with Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies.

This collaboration aims to accelerate the growth of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, a critical component for the transition to greener transport solutions.

The electric vehicle (EV) market has been witnessing explosive growth globally, with increasing awareness about environmental conservation and the pursuit of sustainability. India, in particular, is an emerging hub for EVs, with its government actively pushing for a more extensive EV infrastructure and offering incentives to buyers and manufacturers.

In this context, the partnership between Bridgestone and Tata Power is a strategic alliance that signals the convergence of two major industries – automotive and energy.

On Tuesday, the tyre manufacturer Bridgestone India announced a partnership with Tata Power to provide EV chargers for four-wheelers in all of its outlets across the nation.

According to Bridgestone India, as part of the agreement, Tata Power would install 25/30 Kwh capacity DC fast chargers that can charge a four-wheeler in one hour and can charge 20–24 cars each day.

“At Bridgestone, we always work to offer solutions for travels since we are a valued partner in the mobility arena on a worldwide scale. This devotion is shown in the combined effort with Tata Power, according to Rajarshi Moitra, chief commercial officer of Bridgestone India.

Virendra Goyal, head of business development at Tata Power, said, “Our partnership with Bridgestone India exemplifies our dedication to facilitating the electric vehicle revolution by fostering innovation and collaboration.”

Under this partnership, both companies have committed to installing EV charging stations at Bridgestone Select stores. This initiative will not only enhance the convenience for EV users but also help promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

Along with maintenance support, remote car charging monitoring, and e-payments via the EZ Charge mobile app, Tata Power will offer installation and charging assistance.Additionally, users of the Tata Power EV Charging mobile app may find charging stations, obtain charging-related information, and get online payment advice.

Tata Power, with its vast experience in the energy sector, will be responsible for setting up the state-of-the-art EV charging infrastructure. These stations will be equipped with fast-charging capabilities, ensuring EV owners can charge their vehicles within a short span.

The project’s initial phase will focus on metropolitan cities, eventually expanding to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, reflecting the increasing EV penetration in these areas.

Apart from charging, EV owners can avail tire and maintenance services, making it a one-stop-shop solution. This dual facility aims to provide a holistic experience to the consumers.

This collaboration is not just about setting up charging stations; it’s a testament to the integrated approach industries are adopting towards a sustainable future. By bringing together the expertise of Bridgestone in automotive solutions and Tata Power in energy infrastructure, this initiative promises to redefine the EV landscape in India.

The success of this venture largely depends on the adaptability of EVs among the masses. While metros have seen increasing EV adoption, smaller cities and towns still rely predominantly on conventional vehicles. Expanding the infrastructure to remote areas might pose logistical challenges, given the varying terrain and availability of resources.
