Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world with more than one billion active users. It is gaining a lot of popularity because of its revenue generating prospects and a significant follower base can help you do that. Since Instagress is no more, you can use other viable alternatives instead. However, the Facebook-owned photo and video sharing app promotes user-friendly behavior but has seen cases of harassment and bullying on its platform. Instagram has released a variety of tools and resources to ensure the safety of users on its platform.

From premium or superior account security to comment tools, here are some of the important tips and tricks on Instagram to keep your account safe.

Private Account: Switching to a private account allows you to control who can see your post or content. You can also delete followers with a private account without blocking them. You can make your account private in the following ways.

Filter Comments: On Instagram, you can filter comments based on selected keywords or determined default keywords. If you see an unwanted comment on your post, you can swipe left and tap the trash icon to delete it. Users can also pin any positive comments on their posts. This can augment and encourage positive interaction.

Comment Warning: Instagram has expanded its comment warning to add additional warnings when people repeatedly try to post comments that may be offensive. Less than a year since its global launch, the company claims that negative interactions in comments and headlines have decreased.

Delete comments in bulk: Instagram also enables its users to delete unwanted comments in bulk, as well as restrict or block multiple accounts that post negative comments. To delete comments in the batches on Instagram, click the three dots icon on the top right corner of the comments section, and then click on manage comments. Then you can tap on the number of comments you want to delete.

Choosing who can tag and mention you: Tags and mentions can be used to bully or target others, so Instagram has introduced new controls that allow you to manage who can tag or mention you. You can choose whether you want everyone, only people you follow, or no one to be able to tag or mention you in stories, comments, or captions.

Block anyone you don’t want to see your posts: Even if you don’t have a private account, you can still use blocking tools to control who can find and follow you on Instagram. To block an account, navigate to the account’s profile, open the “…” menu in the upper right corner, and click “Block User”.

Restrictions: You can restrict someone by swiping left in the comment section, through the “Privacy” tab in “Settings”, or directly on the profile of the account you want to restrict. After the restriction is enabled, comments on your posts from the person you have restricted will only be visible to that person. You can click on “See Comment” to choose to view the comment; approve the comment so that everyone can see it; ignore it or delete it. You will not receive any comment notifications from the restricted accounts.

Strengthen the privacy of messaging: Instagram also takes steps to help you control who can send you direct messages on Instagram. This way, you can only allow people you follow to post messages and add you to the group thread. People who enable this setting will no longer receive group messages, message requests or story replies from anyone they never choose to follow.

Report any abuse, bullying, harassment, or impersonation: If you find a post that is problematic or you think a post violates the Instagram guidelines, report it immediately. To report a comment, swipe to the left and click the arrow. To report a specific post or account, click the “…” menu, and then click “Report.”

Two-factor authentication: By enabling two-factor authentication, an extra layer of security shield is added. This requires an SMS security code when logging in from an unknown device.

Instagram accounts are currently being hacked in large numbers by hackers, which is a good argument for using strong passwords and the above-mentioned steps to secure your accounts. This is also a strong and main reason why two-factor authentication should be enabled on Instagram accounts.
