Government plans “cashless” treatment scheme for road accident victims!!

The Government and Road Transport Ministry is planning to launch a cashless treatment scheme for the victims of road accidents with a cap of 2.5 lakh rupees per case. India reports around five lakh road accidents (3 lakh of them are crippled and 1.5 lakh are dead) per annum which touch the highest record globally and becomes a core point to prove the significance of the scheme.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will be setting up a Motor Vehicle Accident Fund under the cashless scheme for road accidents, a communication to transport commissioners and secretaries of the state.

National Health Academy’s strong IT platforms which are used for executing Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana might be lifted to provide cashless treatment to the victims of a road accident. The Director of Motor Vehicle License, Road Transport Ministry, Mr. Piyush Jain thought the golden hour treatment scheme should be added in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and hence the scheme is likely to have golden hour treatment that means the first hour of the accident.

All road accident victims whether Indian or foreigner will be considered eligible to enjoy the beneficiary of the scheme. A cap of 2.5 lakh rupees per person or accident will be provided through the scheme.

An account that will be established by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to finance the Trauma and Healthcare services to the road accident victim and this will help to implement the scheme.

Road Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari has approached the general insurance company to support the ministry in implicating the scheme, and hence insurance companies will contribute in the fund through the general insurance council for hit-and-run-cases and insured vehicles and the accidents for uninsured vehicles will be taken care by the ministry.

In cases of uninsured vehicles, the vehicle owners will also be considered responsible to pay the cost of the treatment as a part of compensation.

Out of 28 states and 8 Union Territories, which makes a total of 36, 32 of them will be enjoying the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aroogya Yojana and the scheme is also promising to benefit about 13 crore families.

Access to cashless trauma care treatment at the nearest hospital in the nation will be provided to the victim under the scheme.

In case any hospital refers a patient to an empaneled Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana Hospital, the hospital has to ensure the provision of stabilization.

According to the Road and Health Ministers who attended the recent Delhi’s insurance and road safety workshop, further details of the scheme are yet to be decided.

The citizens of the nation are expected to look forward to this scheme as the people are already in the dark zone of loss during this ongoing spread of the deadly virus which has taken many lives this year. The victims of road accidents often die due to negligence and the poor die due to lack of financial power. Hence this scheme might prove to be a ray of light for the needy.
