The Negative Report Of “RT-PCR Diagnostic Test” Is Mandatory For Travelers! Delhi Slashes The Cost Of RT-PCR Testing for “COVID-19”
As the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing every day, many states have mandated a negative RT-PCR diagnostic test report for travelers from Delhi-NCR and some of the other states with a growing number of COVID-19 cases.
Basically, a diagnostic test is conducted to determine whether a person has an active COVID-19 infection. There are two types of diagnostic tests: Antigen tests and Molecular tests (RT-PCR tests). Antigen testing detects specific proteins on the surface of the virus, while molecular testing detects the genetic material of the virus.
The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has slashed the price of the gold standard RT-PCR tests for detecting coronavirus infection in the city- by two-thirds to 800 rupees.
After India’s top medical research body ICMR stated in May that it would no longer regulate prices, many states including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu have capped the cost of RT-PCR testing. Now each state would have to be done the testing individually.
The cost of the RT-PCR tests has been reviewed by the Supreme Court, which is hearing a plea and seeking instructions to cap the COVID-19 test cost at ₹400 across the nation.
I have directed that the rates of RT PCR tests be reduced in Delhi. Whereas tests are being conducted free of cost in govt establishments, however this will help those who get their tests done in pvt labs.— Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) November 30, 2020
Although these tests are conducted for free in government hospitals, they may cost up to 2,400 rupees in private laboratories.
