Twitter Again Under The Legal Lenses-A Tale Of Misconducts Going Inside The Social Media Giant.

Since Elon Musk unexpectedly fired hundreds of employees, several claims for wrongful termination of employees have already been brought against Musk and Twitter. Is Musk going through a terrible time, or is this just a clear case of bad leadership throughout the world?

After the controversial and unique tech expert Elon Musk took charge of Twitter in 2022, Twitter Inc. was the target of a lawsuit charging the social media behemoth with unlawfully terminating contract workers without cause. The proposed class action complaint claims that Twitter terminated many workers of the staffing firm TEKsystems Inc. in November 2022 without providing the Sixty days’ notice required by U.S. and California law. At San Francisco’s federal court, the complaint was presented.

Twitter is being sued in multiple more instances for allegedly breaking these regulations, which include the following.

  • Discriminating against disabled employees.
  • Picking out female employees for layoffs.
  • Employees on paternity and maternity leaves.
  • Employees on medical leaves.
  • Allegedly failing to pay the rent on various buildings where Twitter has offices.

Twitter has disputed the accusations. Early in November, Musk, who spent $44 billion to purchase the social networking platform, dismissed around 3,700 people from the company, or half of its employees, as a cost-cutting move. Thereafter, hundreds more workers quit.

Here are some briefs about the lawsuits against Twitter and Musk.

Requests for comment from Maryland-based TEKsystems and social media giant Twitter were not immediately fulfilled. The former is the defendant in the case. While the controversial tech critic Mr Musk believes in the opinion that missing these duties would save the firm money, they hope to demonstrate to him that doing so may be far more expensive, said Shannon Liss-Riordan. This powerful lady is recognised to be the plaintiff’s attorney in all of the cases.

There are some 1,700+ former social media giant personnel and contractors who took that plunge to sign agreements to arbitrate legal disputes against their clumsy boss Elon Musk. They have also lodged grievances in private arbitration. The attorney claimed that none of the TEKsystems folks signed arbitration agreements. Liss-Riordan is also the face who is representing workers who have complained to a U.S. labour board about Twitter, alleging that they were fired from the social media giant for no specific reason. According to these folks, they were thrown out from Twitter as they are attributed for making jeopardized comments about the business. Twitter has not addressed the allegations.

Why Musk has a bad reputation among his fellow female employees?

Once Elon Musk chose to purchase the firm, women at Twitter never had a good chance of being treated properly, according to Shannon Liss-Riordan, the lawyer for the women who are suing. Instead, females were targets, and regardless of their abilities and accomplishments, they were more likely than men to lose their positions.

Carolina Bernal Stripling, a Twitter employee from Miami who spent seven years there, and Willow Wren Turkal, an engineer from California who joined Twitter in 2021 after spending four years each at Facebook and LinkedIn, are the main plaintiffs in the class-action case.

According to calculations by Mark Killingsworth, an economics professor at Rutgers University, 57% of female employees were let go on November 4, 2022, compared to 47% of male employees, according to the lawsuit.

The complaint cites Musk’s tweets as proof of alleged misogyny at Twitter and other businesses that Musk owns and oversees. According to the lawsuit, Musk deleted a tweet in which he mentioned a school by the initials “TITS”. Another recent post that created anger was something when Mr Musk tweeted, “Testosterone rocks ngl.” The complaint also contains references to news stories from PC Mag and Futurism that discuss how Musk’s alleged racism impacts the women who work for him.

Some harsh moves against disabled employees- A non-justified attempt of Twitter.

Several workers who had been employed during the pandemic and even earlier with the promise that they would be able to do the remote job or involve in a ‘work from home’ culture of working due to their medical issues were also fired. Employees with impairments and medical issues asked their bosses if they could continue working from home after Musk discontinued Twitter’s policy allowing remote work. With no justification other than that their recent behaviour had broken corporate rules, these individuals were let go. According to the lawsuit, Twitter fired “roughly 60% of employees who were on leave” when layoffs took place on November 4.

The most recent phenomenon of layoffs at the social media giant.

Musk ordered some of the senior managers of the social media platform to make a list of the top performers on their teams during the most recent wave of layoffs so that they may be promoted and awarded sizable bonuses. Musk, however, later proceeded to terminate these managers and elevate the staff on the list to the positions of the previous managers. Musk then proceeded to fire 200 more individuals for an unspecified cause.

It will be fascinating to watch whether Musk faces legal action from any of the other groups of fired employees. Twitter insiders claim that Musk boosted his security after the most recent wave of layoffs and wouldn’t even use the restroom without a security escort.

Disclosure.

Many lawsuits for wrongful termination of employees have already been filed against Elon Musk and Twitter after Musk abruptly sacked hundreds of workers. Is Musk going through a hard patch, or is this just an obvious global example of weak leadership?
