Delhi Government Launches An Initiative To Help People During The Ongoing Oxygen Crisis: Home Isolated Patients In Delhi Can Now Get Oxygen Cylinders Through Delhi Government’s Online Portal

We never realized the importance of oxygen before 2021, when thousands of COVID-19 patients succumbed to death due to the lack of oxygen. The COVID-19 virus attacks the lungs of the patients, making it difficult to function.

This virus goes in deeper into the lungs than common cold viruses. It eventually results in difficulty in breathing, and hence several patients need oxygen cylinders to survive on artificial life support. The levels in COVID-19 patients drop significantly, resulting in admitting them to ICUs. COVID-19 also leads to pneumonia, wherein the alveoli (tiny air sacs) within the lungs get infected, making it difficult for the lungs to function.

But the second wave of COVID-19 is spreading in India at such a fast pace, resulting in several critical caseloads every day. The demand for oxygen cylinders and ventilators has shot up the sky. People are now willing to buy oxygen cylinders and Remdesivir even from the black market for rates as high as 50,000 INR to save their loved ones from the attack of the deadly virus. In such desperate times, the central government is acting carelessly instead of helping its citizens. The courts have to solve the disputes regarding the shortage of medical supplies across various states.

The situation can only improve further if proper protocols are taken to control the COVID-19.

A sigh of relief in difficult times for Delhi: Delhi government launches an online portal for oxygen cylinders

In such unprecedented times when the patients are struggling to arrange something as simple yet precious resources such as oxygen, the Delhi government has come up with a helping aid to help its citizens. On Thursday, the Delhi government has come up with an initiative to assist the locals by directly applying cylinders for the COVID-19 patients without rendering them here and there to obtain one.

These cylinders will be specifically provided to those COVID-19 patients who are isolated at home. The hospitals and ICUs in Delhi are currently running out of spaces to admit the patients, hence this initiative will help them to easily get access to oxygen cylinders. The online system will start to work from Thursday, the Delhi government informed.

According to an order from the Delhi government, all people who need oxygen for patients separated from their homes can apply to the Delhi government website at http://delhi.gov.in with valid photo ID, Aadhaar card details, and valid COVID-19 positive report documents which indicate the need in such cases. The applicants will be needed to inform the actual amount  required for the COVID-19 patient. If there is a CT Scan report one can also include that the patient needs oxygen.

How to apply for oxygen cylinder under the Delhi government’s new initiative:

Step 1: Visit http://delhi.gov.in, Delhi government’s official website.

Step 2: Find and click ‘book online oxygen cylinder’ located on the home screen.

Step 3: A new page will be opened, now you need to fill in all the necessary details.

Step 4: Upload all the mandatory documents: Photo ID proof, COVID positive report, Aadhar card details.

Step 5: Click “apply” after filling and uploading all the required details.

Step 6: Once your application is submitted, the higher authorities will allow you with a dealer to provide an oxygen cylinder.

According to the review, the District Magistrate (DM) will release the patient stating the date, time, and address of the oxygen supplier depending on stock and availability. “Each district has been authorized with a filter to obtain its total and the relevant oxygen levels. The District Magistrate has been ordered to overlook the management of the proper distribution of cylinders from re-filling to various recipients following the previous Annexure 4,” the Covid data management cell office said in a statement.
